Is this addendum specific to the fact he's to serve in a place that's outlawed cults like the JWs, and it's to get around that NGO label?

Plus, he can't even pronounce the name of the city correctly; how in the world will he be an effective "preacher of the gospel" there???

IIRC, Russia has decided not to allow "missionaries", so TSCC now classifies them as "volunteers" instead.

At a more fundamental level, LDS missionaries should realize they really are volunteers and that the church doesn't own them. They are doing the church a favor, not the other way around.

You are right. TSCC needs to start showing respect to their young men and be grateful that they are willing to serve. They are not draftees!

I agree 100%. I look back on the way we were ordered around, threatened and berated on my mission and it makes me ill. Completely abusive in every way.

Ekaterinburg--That's where the Czar and his family were murdered. How Sweet.

Again, the cult being forced, reluctantly, to tell the truth.

I wish I had understood that concept when I was 19. I was serving the church. Not the other way around. I owed them absolutely nothing. I was a volunteer.

On my mission a 70 told an amazing young man that he was "Nothing." He berated the whole mission for not being obedient enough. We worked our asses off.

Our mission was probably chosen to be berated because the mission was the least-baptizing mission in Brazil.
