Thank you for your interest in chatting with a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
What would you like to talk about?

Now chatting with Sister Hinkey
S
Hello luke, welcome to mormon.org! How are you?
7:40 PM

L
Hi I'm fine. I was reading something online about the Book of Abraham, Facsimile 2, Figure 7, which is identified as "representing God". Does it really represent the God you worship?
7:41 PM

S
That's good! I'm not sure i know what you're talking about, but it's probably not true. Theres a lot of false information about our church online.
7:42 PM

L
That's what it says in the current version of the Book of Abraham. Facsimile 2. Do you have a copy or havve access to a copy? It's online if you google it. on LDS.org. Not anti-Mormon at all.
7:43 PM
The reason I ask is because I've studied Egyptology and that is commonly a representation of the Egyptian Fertility God, Min.

S
ohh I can check, what chapter and verse in Abraham?
7:44 PM

L
He's on the side of many Egyptian temples, represented the way is represented in the BoA.
7:45 PM
The Drawing, Facsimille 2, at the end of the BoA.
Figure 7,

S
Ohh I see
7:47 PM

L
If you google Min God look on Wikipedia to learn about that God. I can't imagine that God is the same God as Jesus/God.
7:48 PM

S
Then I guess the answer to your question would be yes.
7:48 PM

L
Why does the Mormon church still publish a picture of God represented sexually aroused, as he was on the side of Every Egyptian Temple dedicated to Min, the pagan fertility God?
7:49 PM

Chat Session has ended.

re-attached the "private part" of Min in various editions of the BOA.

Most likely it is NOT in the current edition (or recent editions for that matter). In any case, she probably thought you were just being difficult.

The Church is simply reaffirming the fact that Min, like other men, is part human. Thus, he is occasionally shown sans erection in various editions.

Even a mighty fertility god needs occasional repose... The published changes in the BoA Min vignette simply reflect the exalted lad's mood swings and are a complete confirmation of continuing revelation.

I think you sexually aroused Sister Hinkley.

She hung up on you so she could sneak off to the bathroom with her book of abraham, study the facsimile with the erect penis carefully, and...well, use your imagination :)

Joseph Smith didn't know what he was doing... And neither do mormonites today. They know so little about their 'church' and their "church" isn't about to change that. If they knew more, they would leave!

Teaching a missionary. Don't you think you should be paid? Wait, they probably call people on missions, to teach missionaries, for free.

This piker Min (likely short for Minimus) is like everything else in JoeCo's derivative flim-flam.

The inventors of BoA should have chosen a better god-man of fertility, say, maybe like... Priapus or one of his Olympian cousins.

Not according to FARMS,

http://en.fairmormon.org/Book_of_Abraham/Joseph_Smith_Papyri/Facsimiles/Facsimile_2/Identification_of_the_ithyphallic_Egyptian_god_%22Min%22_as_%22God_sitting_upon_his_throne%22

"Question: Is the representation of Min actually Egyptian "pornography"?

This attitude demonstrates not only an immaturity about sexuality, but it also a misunderstanding of ancient Egyptian religion
To answer this question about Facsimile 2 figure 7, the first thing we need to disabuse is that it constitutes "pornography" because it shows the deity with an erect phallus. This attitude demonstrates not only an immaturity about sexuality, but it also a misunderstanding of ancient Egyptian religion. The characterization of this as "pornography" is grossly inappropriate. The Egyptians would almost certainly have not conceived of this figure on the hypocephalus as "pornographic" in the way most people understand the word. This attitude reflected by some is a good example of how our modern, sexually-obsessed society can easily misinterpret religious art. We see an erect penis in a drawing and think "pornography," whereas an ancient Egyptian would have seen one and thought of fertility, virility and life. Hence the depiction of Min with an erection was a sign of his life-giving ability. We have analogies in Northwest Semitic depictions of God. (El is both called and depicted as a virile bull in the Ugaritic texts, both because of his procreative powers and his greatness over the other gods.)
Another thing to keep in mind is just how common syncretism of religious ideas and iconography was between Near Eastern cultures. We know ancient Hebrews and other Near Eastern people used a phallic God to depict “the God of the Bible” all the time. The Canaanite god Baal, for example, shares the same epithet with Yahweh ("cloud rider") in Psalm 68:4."
***********************************************************
^That's fucking insane, by any measure.
It's insane that the MORmONs worship this prick who drew a picture of God with a hard on. They believe the only guy ever to see God in the flesh and live to tell about it, drew a picture of God with a hard on?
I have a theory that the golden statue on top of every Mormon Temple is a phalic symbol and what he's blowing is not a horn but God's penis.

Thank's for posting the fa*rmormon bit and saving me the trouble of looking it up. :-)

Anyway, I hate that explaination because they straight up say it's a "misunderstanding of ancient Egyptian religion."

YOU FRIKKIN' IDIOTS!!

How does that jibe with Abraham!? OK, later they say "Another thing to keep in mind is just how common syncretism of religious ideas and iconography was between Near Eastern cultures."....but....wait.....doesn't that mean that they're all kinda the same??

So just how "true" and "One True Religion" does that make Old Testament Judeaism, and by extension, Mormonism ??

Darn it, I'm mad now and not making sense....

Further evidence that there is no sense in trying to make sense of nonsense. The mental gymnastics on display in that response is mind boggling to try and keep up with. The Cognitive Dissonance of being presented with a pornographic depiction of a God is mind blowing. If people only knew about Min, they'd have a whole different opinion of Mormons.
