Joseph's fertility cult

Given that Christianity looks to be an outgrowth of earlier pagan fertility cults, do you suppose Joseph was going for some kind of archaic revival? I find it ironic that today's bizarre sexually repressed church came from both. Joe would be so exed from the church he started.
