It was one of those shameless pitches for the gospel music recordings of country music crooners singing the praises of Geeeeeeeeezus!

Lordy, what a hallelujah overload: Hank Williams, Dolly Parton, Patsy Cline, Elvis, etc.--complete with personal testimonials from some of these faithful folk solemnly declarin' that the Lord put the Spirit down their gullets and it came out out as Glory to God.

In the background were playin'-for-payin' segments of their most memorable heavenly hits. As good-gawd is my witness, I heard one song with these lyrics:

"Put you hand in the hand of the man who steals the water . . ."

I'm surprised it wasn't an invest in gold commercial, and Fox news is still going? Holy crap I thought it died after Glenn beck left years ago.

That was a very popular Jesus People song when I was a teen. I had forgotten all about it until now.

At least that country gospel crap is better than LDS hymns. I wanted to kill myself every time that we had to reach for that green book....

Loretta Lynn is wearing just the kind of dress that Joseph Smith likes! She wouldn't stand a chance in Nauvoo times. Old Jo would have taken her for his own. She likes being "down on her knees" as she sings.

I hate gospel, country, Christian music. And I even believe in God.

I don't watch fox news, but I imagine commercials come on for ford trucks, monster truck show down, carhart, visitnashville.com, wrangler jeans.

I can assure you I cringe at these. like finger nails on a chalkboard.

So if anybody who believes in god, listens to country music? I know I break the stereotype.

I listen to Harvard Radio Broadcasting every Saturday, all day. It starts with "Hillbilly at Harvard," 9:00 AM Eastern Time, a great mix of classic CW, going back to the old cowboy songs (Gene Autry, etc.), through Hank Williams and the Carter Family, Patsy Cline, up to current stuff. New Orleans zydeco, finger-pickin' & all kinds of stuff. A great mix.

Around 12:30 they broadcast the Metropolitan Opera, going from "Grand Ol' Opery" to "Grand Opera!"

Has to be cultured--it's from Haaahvahd, after all! CW "connasoors" can find it on the internet, search WHRB ("W-Harvard-Radio-Broadcasting), 9:00 AM Eastern Time.

Not a fan of country music or Jesus music, but IMO, you gotta at least like a little bit a song with the title "Drop Kick Me, Jesus, Through the Goal Posts of Life." I only say that 'cause I do like me some football. :)

Which is why I love the current Meme making the rounds on FB: two pictures--the picture above has Tom Brady, smiling and sweaty, with his hand on his forehead, saying "Wow, Joe! I just brought my team back from 25 points down to win it! You never that in the Super Bowl!" Lower picture, a very cool, older, settled, Joe Montana, seated in an easy chair, looking mature (and still very good-looking)with one fist showing all his super bowl rings, a little tiny half smile on his face. Caption: "I never allowed my team to get 25 points down to begin with." YES!!

I don't know how to edit a post, but I seem to have left out a word in my description of the Brady/Montana meme. Brady is saying, "you never did that is the Super Bowl."
(did being the key word..) sorry...

It was the Patriots' defense that allowed Atlanta to get 25 points ahead. Not Brady. And the Patriots offensive blockers, for three quarters. As Yogi Bera said, "It ain't over 'til the fat lady sings."

G.O.A.T!!

And I hated that song even when it first came out which I believe was in the early 1970's.
I guess I'm just a hater.

Hey....I'm a convert.... those songs are part of my childhood upbringing that I heard on the radio! Stuck to hymns at church!:-)
I can still sing them like the best of them! Well, sorta!
Gospel music and the Hit Parade were part of my radio listening when a kid.
Mother broadened my appreciation, fortunately by playing popular music and Chopin Etudes on the piano! She didn't much care for "country-western" music. She called it: "horse music."!!

Because some of those songs were sung by some of my loved ones, they can still stir an emotional string or two from time to time.

With SB getting so wound up with a commercial for country gospel music, he must be absolutely speechless with ads for feminine hygiene products.

Wife points out the ones that upset that upset her the most, tampons, tampax, Viagra and the ones that are plain garbage are on the list.

The latest is for some frozen food that one actor catches another spanking his food.

The closing catch phrase is this great product is "food you'd like to fork".

Sorry no Tums and no commercials if I can help it.

The album you really want is "Jesus Use Me," by The Faith Tones.

Best LP cover.
