This past weekend I was in contact with someone moving to Mount Pleasant UTAH. They said they were moving there as it was to be a place that the saints would gather as bad things are about to happen. They mentioned that the Church is setting these communities up all over the place. This person said it is based on statements based on what modern day prophets are saying about bad things about to happen. These are going to be places of safety. They said the Church does not want many members to know.
This person sold there house in Washington state and moved to Utah several months ago to the community in Mount Pleasant.
Anyone heard of this? thanks

Many people, not just mormons, are fearful and forming like groups.

The advantage a leader of a "mormon " group has is he can claim divine authority, special calling etc. With god putting him in charge he can rule the roost.

There are old apocalyptic mormon prophecies to back them up as well. Of course the main church denying having anything to do with them just strengthens their position that they are called and chosen just like Joseph did when he denied polygamy openly while practicing it secretly with a select few.

One of the sure signs of a cult is separating its adherents from other non-cult people. The more extreme factions of Mormonism have been separating themselves for years from mainstream societies. Mainstream Mormonism may unintentionally promote this type of survivalist mentality through food storage, doomsday predictions, and we-against-the-world teachings. However, there are many other cults who also have the bunker mentality.

Sanpete Co. seems to have its share of survivalists and break away groups.

No. The other way around. Survival Groups are supporting tscc.

Joseph's Myth duped "saints" to gather... to preach to them, get their women, sell them land, profit off of them, take their morality, attention, time, "tithes"/ 'donations', etc.

Nothing new.

Mount Pleasant has a lot of polygamists/preppers. Most notably, the Apostolic United Brethren group which blend in with the local LDS poulation.

It sounds like your friend has gotten caught up in a fringe LDS group.
