I've done lots of white-water rescues on Sacramento River. These rivers look like lotsa fun at this time. NOT!

I've rescued kayakers sans kayak, heading downstream, clinging to a stick.

Flood-stage rivers mover faster than they appear and are full of debris. Strainers (often whole trees with roots) frequently pop up. Very difficult to extricate oneself from those. Most don't.

River rescues are done on jet boats--jet systems are easily plugged, putting everybody at risk.

Search and Rescue guy at Kathleen's computer.

This was an easy rescue. There will probably be a lot of them.

Check out the second video on link to see water conditions that often involve rescues, and what is going on in Sacramento River in Dunsmuir CA.

People who are rescued from situations that resulted from stupidity unfortunately go on in life to propagate the species and produce progeny that is as stupid as their forebears.

First responders are messing up the weeding out of the weak and incapable as intended by nature.

Our species overall is weaker as a result.

Let nature take it's course!

PS - A note for those who take everything and themselves too seriously...

*posted tongue-in-cheek as an attempt at humor by a former first responder. (We all have that gallows humor to insulate ourselves from the never ending stream of tragedy)

Uhhhhhh, IF that really is your concern then your time would likely be better spent down at the local launch area monitoring potential kayakers, you know -the people who actually have kayaks near raging water ways in California, as opposed to the typical RFMer who has never owned a kayak and has no plans to get one, let alone any plans to kayak in California.

Not dumb enough to run something several times over flood stage though.

If I am not mistaken, that is how we lost ex-mo Yossarian many years ago. :(

Hey Search and Rescue Guy - are you any relation to "Larry the cable guy"?

I live in the area and I've seen lots of locals posting pics on social media of themselves standing at raging waters edge...just to see it up close. They aren't getting in to kayak but there are tons of people who are putting their children (and themselves) in danger by just having to see the river up close.
