I live in a county (very large land area) of about 200k outside of Utah. There are seven wards and a branch in county (one is actually part of a stake in the neighboring state).

I was running for political office covering the entire county.

I had a great idea to get some extra votes. I prepared two sets of a campaign card that had a short bio on one side and a short bio on the other. One set mentioned I graduated from BYU. In an unauthorized use of Ward Directories downloaded from lds.org I cross-referenced that list with the county voter list and mailed the card and another flyer to every registered voter on the ward lists.

At least 50% or more of those were returned by the post office of addressee not known.

The number of returns must have due to the unauthorized use of the directories and the wasted $$$ for the mailing was my punishment.

I believe the OP is (was) suggesting:

the directory is out-dated

LDS, Inc. doesn't keep accurate track of member's whereabouts.

or both.
