I peruse this site occasionally (for merriment, guffaws, confirmation me being an apostate is good, etc.) so if you've never heard of me, that's why, first post ever. Anyone to cut through the crap and to the heart of issues. Has anyone else noticed the quick creeping of theocratic values into our (if you're unfortunate enough to live here) state's government? It's always been there but lately I see legislative pieces that seem more Mormon influenced then researched properly. Like the anti-porn thing feels more "Mormonism" than for the good of everyone. As does the medical marijuana research thing (Word of Wisdom flashbacks). Maybe I'm overthinking this...

This certainly is not the first time that shenanigans such as this have happened.

I think alot of things have happened to make them double down on the craziness.

I think that for many Mormons in Utah the world has become smaller and the church has had to work harder to exert control.

Utah was isolated and really did not need to exert that much control because the population and state government were in lockstep with the church.

As cable tv,the internet and more of the faithful are leaving the fold then the harder they need to work to blame and shame. They become uber-conservative and feel they need to create silly laws to show their ward members/constituents that they are "Stripling Warriors" engaged in the "War on the Adversary".

Lived here all my life. Always thought the LDS and the State Government were the same thing. Even when I was TBM.

Sometimes the legislature is actually more conservative than the church. Particularly on immigration, they are never more liberal on an issue than the church is though.
