If they are allowed to drink hot Ovaltine or Cadbury drink with milk, why are they banned from drinking hot coffee and black tea?

We always had hot chocolate (cocoa) every winter. Coffee and tea were banned, along with cola drinks. It made about as much sense as anything else in Mormonism. Which is to say none.

Hot Chocolate is fine. If you are looking for logic in the WoW it will never be found.

Only strange fanatical ones won't, like one of my sisters who thinks chocolate might lead to drinking coffee and tea. Some mormons stay away from colas and others don't. Does any of this make sense? No.

It's a control thing. Making members submit to having innocuous behavior controlled is the first step toward controlling everything else, especially the wallet.

For those unfamiliar with this part of Mormonism, and to gain some understanding on the dietary restrictions in the LDS Church, it's helpful to read D&C 89. https://www.lds.org/scriptures/dc-testament/dc/89
It's important to remember the times this was written.

NOTE: These instructions were never lived completely.

The one that is part of the Temple Questions has to do with what they call: The Word of Wisdom, re: no coffee, tea, (interpreted from "hot drinks"), alcohol, illegal drugs, predominately.
That is the only part that members, in general, pay any attention to. And, that did not become a demand for obedience until the 1920's.

This is never about the ingredients in the items. It is a test of faith, to put it simply; to abstain from coffee and tea. It is also a requirement, (including tithing and other demands), to enter the Temples.

My observation: religions in general are about power and control of the individual, family, and their acceptance, "worthiness" and faith are judged by their level of obedience.

Mormonism takes control to the absolute; control of the naked body by use of the temple garments known as the Holy Garment of the Melchizedek Priesthood which both men and women wear next to their skin.

There are the "letter of the law" type Mormons that take everything to an extreme adding their own interpretation of the laws, such as not drinking or eating chocolate or sodas and other items they add to their list, thinking this will add to their faithfulness.

Generally, most Mormons live "the spirit of the law" which is simply what is required and no more to satisfy the law of obedience.

When a person leaves the LDS Church, one of the things they have to do is to take their power back and own it. That means that the LDS Church and their leaders have absolutely no power over them to tell them what to drink, eat, dress, what movies to see, what to do on Sunday and on and on. They discard the temple garment as the last bastion of control, often in a kind of ritual that symbolizes that they have taken their power back completely!

Its wonderful to use Cocoa Beans to make hot beverages as we use them all the time for church activities where we mix them in with sugar, milk, and help the youth feel a burning in their bosom as part of the firesides where they felt the Spirit strongly while one of their beloved leaders who was called of God to be in the Stake Young Mens Presidency gives some faith promoting ideas in concert with tears and exhortation for them to prepare for missions, go talk to their Bishops about everything, and to be obedient.

However its unthinkably wicked to think of using Coffee Beans instead of Cocoa Beans for warm beverages. Heavenly Father's commandment on this topic is very firm. And if you care one bit about not becoming locked down in the chains of Lucifer down a satanic path to hell then make sure that none of your warm beverages are brewed using the beans of the evil coffee plants.

I bear you my testimony by the truthfulness of the records that Joseph Smith declared were ancient (i.e. Cumorah Golden Plates from resurrected prophet-historian Moroni, papyri written by Abraham himself, Kinderhook Plates, etc) that what I have shared is true.

I always enjoyed hot cocoa. And we always had coffee in our home. Mom drank it until she converted and then we made it for our hired man (we were/are farmers) and always for mom's nevermo family when they visited.

One of my TBM dorm mates at Ricks kept an open can of coffee beans in his room just for the delicious smell.

Mormons do not drink iced tea, but they do drink hot chocolate,
because their scriptures say to avoid hot drinks.
