I wish I were posting the actual bit, but I wonder if anyone can tell me: where was the moment Oaks (I'm almost sure it was him) said he'd never had "an experience like that, and [didn't] know anyone who had?"

It might've been one of those rescues of recent date. Does anybody know?

I seem to remember one from a previous profit. Like george albert smith... Yup I have it archived too. Lucky!

Mar 25, 1950 - President George Albert Smith writes, "I have not
seen the Father or the Son, neither have I heard their voices in
an audible way, but I have felt their presence and have enjoyed
the whispering of the Still Small Voice that comes from them,
the result of which has given me a testimony of the truth."

I also saved this gem from someone on the board.

President Heber J. Grant answered a letter of Mrs. Claud Perry,
on 13 April 1926. The letter is found in the First Presidency
Letterpress Copybooks, Vol. 72, CHD, and reads as follows:

"Dear Sister: Answering your letter of the 12th. I know of no
instance where the Lord has appeared to an individual since His
appearance to the Prophet Joseph Smith, Sincerely, your brother,
(signed) Heber J. Grant"

Grant obviously didn't pay attention when Lorenzo Snow told the apostles of his visit with Christ.

Guess he was gone the day Joseph F Smith gave his story of seeing Christ.

Same with Cannon, Cowdrey, Rigdon and Joseph Sr.

Or...... maybe he knew enought to discredit all the others.

"Or...... maybe he knew enough to discredit all the others."

Ding Ding Ding!!

"Oh! You meant with 'spiritual eyes'?? Well then the answer is yes! Yes they have seen all sorts of things" -Grant-

haha

My understanding of the Story of Lorenzo Snow seeing Jesus in
the temple was told by his daughter years after the alleged
event. I'm not aware there's any record of him telling it to
"the apostles." Is there something on this I'm missing?

Ditto with Joseph F. Smith. There's his "Vision of the
Redemption of the Dead" which sounds a lot like a dream he had
when dozing off in his chair late at night. But where does he
actually claim that Christ appeared to him?

Ditto for sources of Cannon, Cowdery, Rigdon, and Joseph Sr.
actually having Christ appear to them, as opposed to having
their "eyes of understanding . . . opened" in vision.

Cannon stated "I know Jesus lives, for I have seen Him" Deseret Weekly 53:610 6 Oct 1896. He gives no other details.

Rigdon said he conversed with Christ D&C 76:14

As I recall Snow's story. He asked that the twelve pass over him in chosing a church president. He fasted and prayed in the temple. Received his experience. Then in a meeting of the 12, after they all said they wanted him as president, he told them of his visitation. My books are all packed away so I don't have a full reference today.
