Hey everyone, my family needs some goods thought sent our way. I had to call for an ambulance yesterday for my mom because she was so sick and weak there was no way that my dad and I could get her out to the car and to the ER ourselves. She has been sick off and on now for a while with Crohn's disease and recently had been taken off a med that was actually working because it lead to her getting a fungal disease that was is common with that partipular med. So now she has what is called an explosive infection that has gone septic in her stomach and intestants and had to be transferred from our local hospital to a major hospital an hour and a half away.

I am frustared right now because the doctors she is seeing for the fungal disease doesn't seem to want to work with her other doctors to find a med she can take for her Crohns as well as her rhemtoid arthitis that won't effect her treatment for her fungus disease. I am tired of her being sick all the time because it makes it where she can't do anything nor is she able to eat or drink the things that she enjoys because either she is too sick to eat or the food itself makes her sick.

So there you have it. Please pardon the bad spelling because I haven't figured out how to do spellcheck on my new tablet yet.

It's so hard when a sick person can't take the medicine they need without getting another terrible illness.

I'm been in a similar situation and felt trapped and frustrated as well.

Good luck and warm thoughts to you.

I am feeling for you...and for your Mom.

I am sorry that she, and you, are going through this.

I hope they will identify the optimum med soon.

I'm sending good thoughts to you and your family, Kativicky. Perhaps the physicians at the larger hospital will have some ideas about a better medication for your mom.

I'm so sorry! Sending good thoughts. Crohn's is a bitch of a condition and it seems to vary so much from person to person.

That sounds awful. Check with the hospital where your mom is staying for their advocacy department. It sounds like she could use one about right now, and so can you.

They may be staffed with social workers who are trained in serving the patients to get the best optimal care, and intercession when the doctors aren't as responsive to your mom's needs upfront.

Crohn's is an absolutely miserable illness. I haven't had it, but a good friend of mine did.

Back then, we were working for the Manager from Hell, and donating sick leave from one worker to another was not available. Several people offered, but it was not permitted.

The poor woman - who had a toddler son and a super-macho husband who didn't feel that child-tending or house-tidying were "man's work," actually had to have her own mom come over to help her.

As I recall, she lost 30 or 40 pounds, and had to "take in" her entire wardrobe, because with her lost wages, there wasn't money to buy new clothes that didn't hang on her. As a group, we contributed as much as we could, but they needed SO much. Poor Rose looked practically skeletal when she returned to work. She had been a little bit on the chubby side before.

Nasty way to lose weight.

Good thoughts on the way. I hope you can find a doc who is not strictly by the book and will look at integrating alternative treatments.

So I am back home from being with my mom at the hospital. Thanks for the good thoughts so far. They had to put a tube in her through her nose to help pump out some of the gunk that was in her stomach to help alleviate some of the pain that she was in. There is so much inflammation in her bowels because of her Crohn's disease that it has created a blockage there where nothing is able to get through. Mom sent us home about supper time so she could rest up plus we need to get on the road so we could get to the house before dark. Hopefully, when we go back tomorrow, we can have some good news.

Inflammation can be so painful. Hopefully the docs can start to get it under control so that your mom can be more comfortable.

My wife has ulcerative colitis along with cystic fibrosis,so I have experience in dealing with comorbid conditions. It can be extremely challenging, and if specialists will notwork together it's even worse. seding positve thoughts and prayers.

So we just got to the hospital. Mom is doing better and now she has her stomach drained of all the gunk, most of the pain went away. She said it is a little sore but I was expecting that. The doctor is keeping the tube in to make sure she doesn't have anymore issues with the gunk. She will probably have to stay another day or so.

My younger daughter is ill with a very rare disease. I know how frustrating it can be dealing with doctors. With specialization today they seem to get stuck in their box and can't venture to think outside it. It took us a very long time to finally find a doctor who listened to all that she was going through and viewed her complete records. He called us at home and sent us straight to the ER and put us in touch with a doctor who has dealt with this condition previously. So I am not surprised with what your poor mother has been dealing with in her illness. Sounds like she has one of those big ego docs who knows better than all others and so won't cooperate with her other docs because they are beneath him. Just my thoughts. I hope she gets to feeling better.

I got an update about my mom. The inflammation has not quite gone down yet so the tube is going stay awhile so she doesn't have a bunch of crap just sitting on her stomach. She got her appetite back but they don't want her eating until the inflammation does eases up enough for the food to go from one end to the other. Thanks for the well wishes and I will keep ya'll updated.

I know when I've had serious inflammation it's taken about three days to start to get it under control. I hope that hers resolves soon.

Dad and I are home for the evening and are going to return in the morning to see Mom. Other than there still being some inflammation in her stomach she is doing well. She wants to come home really bad and I don't blame her. Her nurses and doctors at the hospital have been great with her and I am thankful for that.

Now it is time to relax, get some rest and love on my two cats who have been missing Mom dearly since she has been in the hospital.

You mom and you all are in my thoughts and prayers.

My cousin had Crohn's Disease.

His doctor had him on Codeine tablets to a fairly high dosage and it helped him a great deal.

Can they provide Codeine to your mom?
