was sent an ad from a certain church bookstore. An ebook with called a "reason for faith" with 17 essays. It has a quote from Uchy saying that mormons are a "question-asking" people because inquiry leads to truth.

Then proceeds to state that "before the internet, historical and doctrinal questions" (not in church curriculum) "were mostly found in the scholarly articles of academic journals" but now members can find them on the internet and may experience "surprise, fear, betrayal and even anger."

this book will help members address the info they find on the internet.

what's silly is it doesn't address why they are surprised by the info in the first place - why wasn't the info in the curriculum AND no mention that the majority of this special hidden info actually contradicts the original curriculum and why that is a problem for the integrity of the church?

"mormons are a "question-asking" people"

Isn't it questions that get you X'ed.

I think the questions that they ask are:

How much money do you want?
How much of my time do you want?
Why am I so unworthy?

This is like putting a bell around a cow's neck so you can find it easier---but it's still a cow.

What a lame attempt to pretend like this is all just old news that was there all along. Well actually it was--Fawn Brodie wrote all about the exact same things and got excommunicated for it.

And for me the best question to people who claim this ugly history is no big deal is "So why was Fawn Brodie excommunicated for writing in her book what is in the essays now?"

I'm tempted to buy it just to see what's inside but I don't want to give them any money.

Here are the Chapters in the book. I like "Remembering the First Vision" - which apparently JS couldn't accurately do.
I also like "The explanation-defying Book of Abraham". Funny.

Chapters:
"Joseph Smith and Money Digging"
"Remembering the First Vision"
"Translating the Book of Mormon"
"Anachronisms in the Book of Mormon"
"The Testimonies of the Book of Mormon Witnesses"
"The Restoration of the Priesthood"
"Isaiah in the Book of Mormon"
"The Explanation-Defying Book of Abraham"
"Joseph Smith and the Kinderhook Plates"
"The Practice of Polygamy"
"Joseph Smith's Practice of Plural Marriage"
"Freemasonry and the Latter-day Saint Temple Endowment Ceremony"
"Race, the Priesthood, and Temples"
"Finding Lehi in America through DNA Analysis"
"Latter-day Saint Women in the Twenty-First Century"
"Homosexuality and the Gospel"
"Science and Religion: Friends or Foes?"

The title "Explanation-Defying Book of Abraham" made me laugh out loud. The insinuation coming from the title alone is classic Mormon semantic games.

I'm sure every chapter reads the same: The Lord works in mysterious ways. Heavenly father wants us to accept the words of his prophets on faith. That is how we show our love to God.

Blech!

My mother knows a lot of the issues with Joseph now but says, "We don't know why Heavenly Father chose Joseph to restore the church. We only know that he did. That's good enough for me."

I think I'm going to get her this book.

Why don't they excommunicate themselves?

"...found in scholarly articles and academic journals."

Hmmmm, is that what they're calling No Man Knows My History now?

Mormons are absolutely unquestioning in my experience. They lie about everything to do with their religion. Dieter's a perfect example of the lying denier in charge.

Sadly, I have to agree with you, Don. I used to think that at least Dieter might turn out to be a decent person. But the more nonsense he puts out, the more I despair.

Apparently it is true that power corrupts. (Or else he was always a bad guy and he was just better at hiding it than the others....)

We all need to remember good looking doesn't equal good.

I get what you mean, but in truth, I don't see him as being as good looking as others seem to. I keep wondering what that's all about.

Uchydorfy can make the statement that Mormons are a questioning people, but it is deceitful because the members are actually curtailed in their questioning, must ask the "right" questions according to Bednar, as well as the members are given strict parameters as to what is spiritually approved for them to read in order to find questions they even care to ask. Plus, do not forget, they have been told to doubt their doubts and run to their bishops if they have dilemmas they can't solve.

Why more essays? The first ones aren't being read much at all. Is this Mormon gal a better writer than who the church hired for the 12 essays?

"mormons are a "question-asking" people"

When I started asking questions and it took some courage to even dare ask, all I got was Mormons getting upset or very uspet.

I just don't get it. It's like they blamed me for their own history.

Doubt your doubts before you doubt your Uchy.
