It is perfectly fine to go nuts opening that damn LDS Corp envelope aka missionary calling.

I ask because DW once had a calling extended after she returned to the morg after being inactive for several years. She wasn't sure that she wanted to be tied down with a calling so she posted on fb that she had been offered a secretary position and she was immediately rebuked, attacked and ostracized for talking about it. Her no mo friends had no idea what was going on and they thought it was an actual job with benefits. Lol

Also, are there cases where the young folks open the envelope and it reveals that they are unworthy to serve?

That would be hilarious.

Dear Elder,

It has been determined through great revelation that you can't control your wankings. Even at church you can't control your ddesires and thoughts. Please repent and become chaste.

Sincerely,
The First Presidency

She was rebuked because she did not simply accept the calling. If she has posted "Whoo hoo! The lord is allowing me to work for free!" All would have been well. It was the doubt that was not allowed.

Mormonism attempts to control the flow of information in order to bolster their claims to authority. Leaders need to look perfect in the execution of their positions.

Mormons treat callings like revelation. How do you think people would react if they learned they received their callings after their "inspired" bishops ideas were declined by other members of the congregation?

This^^^

1. If you hear about people declining callings, you might feel more confident to also decline.

2. Your calling comes from god, but you were 2nd choice, cos god didn't know that sister xx had lawn bowls on Wednesday night.

3. They may not have released the current holder of the calling and are just fishing for a replacement. If you say no, not to worry, brother xy still there to do it, even if we want to release him. Can't let him know though..might piss him off

All of the above sound likely, especially #3.

Don't talk about callings why? Because people might realize that it does not come from god, if they knew how often the callings fall through. Or are wildly inappropriate.

It is just a bunch of tired, petty bureaucrats trying to get everyone fully involved in busywork, so that the marks won't have time to think about the many layers of nonsense.

The reason that announcing it is deemed inappropriate is because it can be withdrawn until you are sustained, and (more importantly, sometimes they haven't told the person being released and it causes huge bad feelings).

One more problem for TSCC if someone publicly discusses turning down a calling, the person they call in place of the one who turned it down will have even more reason to doubt that the calling was "inspired."

Once about 20 years ago we got a new branch president and his entire family was there for this announcement. He had 5 daughters and 4 of them were inactive but for this day all of them showed up with their non member husbands and kids lol.

The Swedish rescue started with a facebook group that discussed gospel questions.

Discussing a calling prior to accepting it also shows that she is is not following the first law of heaven obedience.

More so it shows that she is thinking on her own if the "calling" would fit in her current life or not. Many callings are very time consuming and when people really think about it they probably rather decline them. Good for her for discussing it on facebook.

But,... dud they ask you first?

I know it has faded from fashion, but according to the prophet Joseph F, Smith, no one should receive a calling without thd head of household's approval.
