Help me fill it in:

late 1960s: "Every member a missionary"

early or mid-1970s: "Lengthen your stride"

//big blank for me//

2015 or so: "Hasten the work"

Can you fill in any of the big blanks? There's always an initiative going on. They all fail. In fact, there's probably something different beyond "hasten the work."

Somewhere in there is "Do it" Or maybe that was just a sign on Kimball's desk.

President David O. McKay encouraged every member to be a missionary during the spring conference in 1959.

Well, it isn't an official slogan, but it seems to currently be "Don't Look Behind the Curtain".

Maybe "Don't You Dare Get Out of the Boat"

Edited to add: every member a missionary was still pushed pretty hard in the 70's and 80's. I can't think of anything else from that time period

Late 80's, though I don't know when it was written or how widespread it was.

We had a set of guidelines to use whenever we had a convert baptism. It included how to get the convert to invite non-members to the baptism, how to speak about the baptism to non-members in ways that made it sound like a significant life event (like a wedding), how to try to get the converts contacts interested in learning more, and how to get the convert to invite those non-members to learn more and meet the missionaries.

We never got a single new contact out of it.

A huge disaster, and already forgotten by most.

2016: "I am so furious with people that leave this church...What kind of patty-cake, taffy-pull conviction is that?!"

What the hell does that even mean, Mr. Holland?

2007: "Thrust in your pickle..." -Dave Bednar

I may be paraphrasing, but that's how I remember it.

I'm a mormon,
so hump me God!

The Laurels had sleeveless t-shirts with the above message stenciled on them, and the idea was to get us Priests to be more devout because only by being worthy of the Celestial kingdom would we become ghawds and thus be rewarded with Laurel nubility.

(Reminds me that earlier thread about breast feeling in church!)

I would like to bear my testimony: *I know this church is true. I know that Joseph Smith restored the gospel. I know that my Savior lives. I know that Thomas S. Monson is our living prophet.

Every week I would hear something similar from every person that stood in front of the microphone.

*Cue the Bishop or the WML's wife crying.

The Lamanite program, correlation, maling every mtg., event, social etc. a mini-church meeting. I can not think in my 60 years what has worked like they said it would. My favorite? Go on a date to the temple with your wife. Really? go on a date and be seperated from her for over 2 hours? Bite me.

Families Are Forever is in there somewhere.

correct, it started that way, but morphed into:

families CAN BE forever.

I just checked, and "Families Are Forever" seems to have hatched in 1991. By at least 2008 it seems to have changed to "Families Can Be Forever." It may have been urged along by the song, but may have been a slight tack change to reflect changes in doctrinal winds across the shallow sea.

Focus 5 . Not sure if that was a socal thing or churchwide. Probably started in 2009 or so. That's where each auxilliary would choose 5 inactive names on the ward list to harass for a time. Goal would be return and report to the ward council. If someone couldn't be found or was clear that they didn't want contact, the name was dropped and a new one added. Endless busiwork....i mean...."ministering"

Don't know if it was an initiative, but when I was a kid (David O. McKay days) we had signs everywhere, "No Success Can Compensate for Failure in the Home."

Early 80's.

"If You Love Them, Tell Them"

I remember this because I was in third grade and didn't quite get it. I told this girl that I had a crush on that I loved her. It was Jesus telling me to do this so what could go wrong?

Oh Man!!!

Remembered a couple more:

Walk the straight and narrow path

Endure to the end
...Which sort of went along with
Hold fast to the iron rod

Choose the right
(that one backfired big time, since that's just what I did when I left)
