Does anyone have any suggestions for some videos about the historical accuracy of the Bible or anything like that where it takes a hard scientific look at it? I've got a whole weekend to myself with he gf out of town and I plan to take full advantage and watch my happy place stuff :)

Listen to or read Thomas Paine's Age of Reason. He points out obvious Bible BS.

This book is a classic. It's in every library and probably downloads for free from somewhere.

Maybe you could go enjoy yourself outside and take a listen!

Bart Ehrman is a nice apologetic approach.

This is a great source which points out all the problem verses in the KJV by type: http://skepticsannotatedbible.com/

They also show all the problematic and absurd verses in the BoM in another section.

Skeptic'a annotated Bible is good. Skeptics annotated BofM is not so much. They left so much out. I wish a real Mormon Critic would annotate the Book of Mormon.

You are correct. In hindsight, I should have written: "They also show SOME OF the problematic and absurd verses in the BoM in another section.

They, of course, never covered them all. I agree that it would take someone well versed in Mormonism to do a through job. If he were still alive, I would think that Jerald Tanner could have done it.

There's an interesting series by Historian and Egyptologist, John Romer, who made a series called Testament. I have it on DVD.

It's not so much about examining the stories in the Bible, but it shows you how the book was gradually put together to become the final product that we have today.

No videos but I must reiterate the bible--old testament is a plagiarism of ancient Sumerian legends and annals.

The "Bible Unearthed" by Finkelstein and Silberman, two Israeli archaeologists is a fascinating read. Much of the Old Testament is nothing but the invention of Jewish priests, with little evidence to back up Exodus story, etc. Also, Bart Ehrman's "Forged" is a great book that explores the origins of the New Testament, especially with regards to the apostolic letters. Any quotes from Paul's letters should always carry a big asterisk.

Bart D. Ehrman is a scholar of the fragments of New Testament literature and their contradictions. He wrote the book "Forged:Writing in the Name of God--Why the Bible’s Authors Are Not Who We Think They Are"

As a former devout Evangelical and Pastor he has some of the best information available.
Many of his speeches and debates can be found on youtube. He has his own youtube channel.

The PBS Special "The Bible's Buried Secrets" is also very good. You can also find it on youtube.

Ehrman is a good source for some things, but he almost lost me with his "Jesus was a real person since Biblical scholars agree that he existed"!

It is next to impossible for those who receive their income from Christian organizations & universities and the sale of Christian themed books to be completely objective (BYU professors and instructors included).

To the best of my knowledge, nobody has put together a single work that looks at all of the bible stories and the scientific evidence that refutes or supports them.
The reason is simple: it would be a massive undertaking.
Unlike "apologetic" works, which focus on convincing people the stories are real, and which carefully (and dishonestly) pick and choose "evidence" to include, the amount of science that shows the bible stories false is frankly far too voluminous to include in a single work.
And the people doing the work in archeology, geology, paleontology, anthropology, history, etc. that gather the evidence showing bible stories false aren't doing it for the *purpose* of showing the bible stories false. They're just simply trying to learn about our history and our planet. They're not a unified group motivated to support a particular interpretation at any cost like the apologists are.

So while others have given you good bits and pieces to start with, you're largely on your own in such an endeavor. Given the motivation of the apologists, it's also far easier to find apologetic articles on the web than it is the contrary...actual scientific articles aren't titled 'Why the bible is false!' or promoted on desperate websites. Their authors do the field work, publish in a journal, and go to scientific conferences. They aren't for the most part going around trying to convince believers of the absurdity of their belief.

So start with what you've been given here. But don't consider that, by any means, the entirety of the subject. You'll have to dig deeper than quick web articles, or (largely) single-subject popular books, to find facts. And it'll take a lot more than a weekend. Good luck!

Richard Carrier is an interesting Historian.

Uses bay's theorem to disprove the Bible. Much of what is written can be found in other cultures. The Bible is a collection of stories and myths from other cultures.

Google Richard Carrier, Dr. Robert Price, Daniel Dennett, Dan Barker as well as much of the Atheist community. I was shocked that I agree with so much oftheir position even while I was TBM.

One of the biggies is no archeaological or written evidence of the Exodus with Moses.

More or less the same as the Book of Mormon. No evidence and no credible scientists do any work on it because it is a myth.
