Raising a salute to my fellow veterans and those currently serving wherever you are and whichever flag you serve.

To all those who paid the ultimate price, we will not forget you.

A few years ago I attended the Last Post which is held at Menen Gate (Menenpoort) in Ieper, Belgium every evening in remembrance of those who died in Flanders Fields in WWI and WWII. I chose to do it on Anzac Day.

The Menin Gate ceremony held every night 365 days per year is very moving. The Menin Gate memorial spans the road at the eastern exit of Ypres (Leper) Belgium a few miles from the trenches, the last point soldiers heading to the trenches saw of the town. Rather than all the dead of Flanders it commemorates 50,000 British and Commonwealth soldiers whose names are engraved on virtually every surface of the memorial killed in that small section of whom no trace was ever found. The Last Post (an equivalent of taps) is blown by bugelars representing the Ypres fire department. With the exception of WW2 years when the Germans did not allow it the ceremony has taken place very night since the memorial was erected in the 1920s. The ceremony can be found on You Tube.

Just back from our local dawn service and preparing for extended family (nonMo!) gathering.

We honour your service and remember those who sacrificed.

I add my deepest heartfelt thanks to those who prepared the way for me to live peacefully and in safety in the country I love. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten. For those of you in the US, that includes people of your country, and of course all the Aussies and other nationalities who lost their lives in defending us here. My thanks to each and every one!!

A day late but...

"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them."

The Aussies and New Zealanders are great soldiers I salute them.

I spent a few years in Sydney. Is the ceremony held in Martin Place? My memory's not what it was. Regards.

Like the sound of beer

Lord Nelson is a good spot - great beer brewed on site

Martin square is where it all happens. Bit too full of brown nosing polies for my liking.

I concentrate my efforts on the Rocks after all the parades.

(For non-sydneysiders, the Rocks is right under the Harbour bridge and has dozens of the oldest pubs in Australia. It contains lots of very pissed soldiers on Anzac Day. Awesome)
