Here's one of mine.

Beneath my Lamanite car thief exterior lies the heart of a sailor, newly arrived in port, with his pay, looking for a church. I'm a schmaltzy brute, is what I am.

Amazing Grace...when it involves bagpipes. I insisted a piper play my dear mom out of the church after her funeral. My Scottish blood is warmed by this hymn.

I hope your surname is REALLY Dunn....because that's mine, too. I know we don't usually use "real" names, but, hey, it could happen!LOL Irish and LOVE me some bagpipes. With ME it's "Danny Boy."

And I'm "just" Scottish enough to do a mean rendition of "Loch Lomond."

The same but only when my grandfather played the bag pipes.

The Irish pipes solo by Davey Spillane from Riverdance I find particularly moving also.

But if it catches me off-guard, Pink's "Who Knew" is known to bring in the onion ninjas. I've lost too many friends to freak accidents and suicides.

To keep in the Christmastime mood, this one always gets me; I directed 'A Christmas Carol' once, and one requirement was that a choir was to be part of the show, so I had them sing 'Lo, How a Rose E'er Blooming' behind the first Tiny Tim scene, then sing it in a minor key later when Bob Cratchit tells of visiting his grave.

"Who Are You?" Tom Waits
"What's the Matter Here?" Natalie Merchant
"To Sir, With Love." Lulu
"Superstar." Karen Carpenter
"Puff the Magic Dragon." Peter, Paul and Mary
"Candle In the Wind." Elton John
"Tears In Heaven." Eric Clapton
"A Poor Wayfaring Man of Grief." James Montgomery and George Coles
"Suzanne." Leonard Cohen

I'm not even religious, but that bit in "Suzanne" about Jesus watching from his lonely wooden tower just tears me up. Every song on the list has made me cry at one time or another just listening to it.

I cant listen to 'Candle in the wind' without thinking "Goddamn you, Elton John, you stole the flowers from Marilyns grave to lay on that tart, Diana's, goddamn you"

"I Still Can't Say Goodbye" by Chet Atkins.

I can't listen to this song without tearing up a bit and thinking about my Dad.

I was at the local coffee house the other morning, putting cream in my coffee when one particular song came on the sound system and instantly, tears welled up in my eyes and spilled out onto my face as I could hear my dear old dad, who passed away a few years ago, singing Jingle Bell Rock. He was such a happy guy.

God be with you till we meet again;
By His counsels guide, uphold you,
With His sheep securely fold you;
God be with you till we meet again.

Till we meet, till we meet,
Till we meet at Jesus' feet;
Till we meet, till we meet,
God be with you till we meet again.

God be with you till we meet again;
Neath His wings protecting hide you;
Daily manna still provide you;
God be with you till we meet again;

God be with you till we meet again;
With the oil of joy anoint you;
Sacred ministries appoint you;
God be with you till we meet again.

God be with you till we meet again;
When life's perils thick confound you;
Put His arms unfailing round you;
God be with you till we meet again.

God be with you till we meet again;
Of His promises remind you;
For life's upper garner bind you;
God be with you till we meet again.

God be with you till we meet again;
Sicknesses and sorrows taking,
Never leaving or forsaking;
God be with you till we meet again.

God be with you till we meet again;
Keep love's banner floating o'er you,
Strike death's threatening wave before you;
God be with you till we meet again.

God be with you till we meet again;
Ended when for you earth's story,
Israel's chariot sweep to glory;
God be with you till we meet again.

I always liked "God be with you till we meet again"

as well as "Lord dismiss us with thy blessing"

because they were the last songs of the day.

The Living years by Mike and the Mechanics

Its a song about a Father and son who dont see eye to eye on everything, but after the father dies, the son wishes he could have told him that he loved him

I generally saw eye to eye with my dad, on everything, but I still wish I could have told him I loved him more

I know that I'm a prisoner
To all my Father held so dear
I know that I'm a hostage
To all his hopes and fears
I just wish I could have told him in the living years

i get teared up just reading the lyrics

This always gets me, too. And as I get older and my dad's health declines, even moreso.

Others for me (for a variety of memories)

Hello - Neil Diamond

Silent Lucidity - Queensryche

On the Turning Away - Pink Floyd

The Star-Spangled Banner.

Maybe cheesy, sure, but before 9/11, I never gave that song one minute of thought and didn't really care for it much. It's hard to sing and it doesn't mean anything.

After 9/11, when I get to the part about "rockets' red glare" and "bombs bursting in air," I get all weepy, thinking about how resilient people are and how we tend to band together and help each other in bad times moreso than turning on each other. And sometimes the weepy is because there's still too much turning on each other. So now that song has some meaning for me.

The other song that makes me sob like a baby is Wings for Marie, Pts. 1 and 2, from Tool's 10,000 Days album. It's the frontman's eulogy for his mom and the song is about a woman who struggled and suffered but was pure and loving and faithful her entire life despite her challenges. And now she's gone and she gets to demand her place in heaven. 'Cause your mom deserves that.
:: sniff ::

And that right there was the weirdest juxtaposition of songs ever.
