How insular can this church be?

Stevenson knows where the money's kept, Rasband is fully church broken and was a Huntsman employee while Renlund married the daughter of a GA and is a doctor so will take the lead on abortion/assisted dying etc once Nelson's gone.

As you say though, all white. The church members must be demoralised - the GAs shaking the new "apostles'" hardly looked thrilled either!

There are no women, poor people, people of color or maybe even someone who isn't even a Mormon (a Ghandi like person) that God can call to lead his one, true worldwide church???

If it's all inspired wouldn't we expect regular surprises from God. He has billions of people to choose from, but picks three guys from Utah that are US businessmen and have been beaten into submission my "decades of church service" etc...

Would YOU choose someone because of their race, ethnicity, gender or theological knowledge to run YOUR multi-billion dollar corporation?

Me neither. I'd want what was best for the business. Just as they do.

I like your response.

I sat on a selection committee once, responsible for making an important promotion within the organization I worked for.

After resume review, reference checks, and interviews, it was glaringly obvious who the best candidate was... a white male. The competition for the promotion wasn't even a contest.

He didn't get the promotion, because we "needed a more diverse choice." The job went to a less-qualified black woman.

Well, I suppose it was a shot in the arm for diversity, but what about the other candidate, who was shut out of a promotion because he was male and white?

We eventually lost the best guy to a competitor (he took his expertise, work ethic, and extensive contacts to good use... swaying our clients to his new workplace), and the candidate who was promoted wasn't very successful in the new position. She became something of a joke.

Every time I hear people go on about "diversity in the workplace," I translate that to "racial quotas."

I agree that the best candidate should be chosen, regardless of race. But if the church's claims are true, then "Who the Lord calls, the Lord qualifies". If God is doing the calling, he can take anyone and make them qualified, right? So there's no reason he can't call a minority.

Except that he either doesn't exist, or doesn't lead the Mormon church, of course. That goes without saying.

I hope non Caucasian LDS children all over the world are asking their priesthood holder fathers "why none of the apostles look like us, Daddy"?

Yeah, all white business men from Utah. Why am I not surprised?

Paraphrasing Sonny and Cher:

"The myth goes on, the myth goes on
Drums keep pounding
A rhythm to the brain
La de da de de, la de da de da"

As these choices "must" be inspired by the Lard, surely the real fault lies with god?

Having your entire church leadership be led by the same race when you pretend to be a global church.

It's perhaps racist to complain when a white man is promoted; but it is far worse racism to ONLY promote white men.
