One of the totally unexpected things I learned from UNDER THE BANNER OF HEAVEN is that (at least in those, particular, FLDS groups) having sex while pregnant is considered a violation of the Law of Chastity...it is the female who is blamed for the violation...and, evidently, the judgment from the other women in the group can be harsh if this restriction is violated.
From a male viewpoint, this would tend to cut down considerably the amount of "authorized" sex which would be available to him, especially if he had only two or three wives.
That's terrible. Pregnancy hormones cause many women to get very horny. How cruel is it to deny such women the comfort they need, during a difficult time.

I agree completely...when I read that I felt very sad for all of the women.

If you are talking to me, then I do---of course!!!---feel sorry for "all of the women involved in polygamy *all* of the time"...as well as for all of the children and adolescents of both genders...and a good percentage of the men as well (those men who would not be part of that culture if they felt able to leave or were able to imagine a viable alternative).
From strictly a woman's standpoint, though, it is particularly hard for many women to go through pregnancy without the comfort (and interior "exercise," which in pregnancy becomes physiological prep for childbirth) of sex.
It is also debasing to be denied sex when a woman is pregnant (assuming that she wants sex, of course!!!), because it reinforces the constant realities of her life that, within that culture, she is little more than property to be traded by the males (whether they be the leaders of the group, or her own male relatives).
Not only is she denied the comfort and physiological value of sex (if she wants it), she is also being disrespected as a human being with valid needs and preferences which deserve to be "heard" and honored.

Like Islam where women are not meant to enjoy sex, so it is in Moism. The result is that some men seek sex with women who are into it even though they have many wives.
