I was wondering if anyone else saw the wording on the front of the ensign I work for a member who really knows lil about my true disaffection but saw her ensign and the whole defender of marriage thing which made me ill. Did anyone read it and what it said I just dont have the stomach for it. I guess I am so defensive of this because I have a cousin who is gay and several friends who I feel should be able to marry and be happy and love whomever they choose without anyone telling them otherwise. So did anyone read it just curious?

crissykays is referring to the August edition.

The front cover summary of contents shows:

Disciples and the
Defense of Marriage,
pp. 34, 50, 80
All Missions Bring Souls to Christ, p. 24
Safety in God’s Standards, pp. 42, 48, 68

I haven't read it.

Here's a link if anyone is bored enough to read it.

I can't bring myself to do it. TSCC makes me sick.

Generally speaking, the thrust of this issue is obedience.

Surprise!

Blah. More blind obedience. I wish my family would just get out.

I'm not sure how any believer can read this and not think, "Wait a minute, Joseph Smith did the opposite of everything mentioned in this article about marriage."

Cognitive Dissonance is a powerful thing.

Wasn't Joseph Smith's death, as well as most of the persecution they endured, due to Smith's initiation of plural marriage, which was not accepted by their neighbors as biblically sound? It was also against the law of the land. Utah had to renounce polygamy to be admitted to the union. I remember seeing photos of "brethren" sitting behind bars because they would not discontinue their illegal and unbiblical ways. History....

It probably had more to do with Joseph trying to recruit married women.

Because of this post i had a look at the app so i could get the August issue in. Something caught my attention. There is a seperate issue in the app for L. Tom Perry between June and July and it has been there for at least a month. But there is none for Boyd K. Packer. Hmmmm

I noticed that too. Even as an exmo I was a little sad with Perry's passing but not Packer's.

"Heavenly Father’s Fixed Standards" by Elder Allan F. Packer, Boyd K. Packer's son, with this lovely tagline:

"God’s standards are fixed, and no one can change them. Individuals who think they can will be greatly surprised in the Final Judgment."
