It may be too late for some of you. The FP has asked bishops
to read the letter on SSM in sacrament meeting either on the
5th (too late if they did) or the 12th (you can still attend).

I'm asking you to attend sacrament meeting. You will need only
yourself and one black, leather glove.

At the 1968 Mexico City Olympics two black American sprinters,
Tommie Smith (gold) and John Carlos (bronze) used the medal
ceremony to send a message about racial problems in the USA.
During the playing of the Nation Anthem, they bowed their heads
and each raised a gloved fist in what was termed a "black power
salute."

So I suggest the following, for those of you who won't get
killed by your spouse or boss:

Go to church. When they start reading the letter, put on the
black, leather glove, sand up with a raised fist and your head
bowed. Don't make any commotion or say a thing. Just stand in
that pose until the letter is finished being read, then sit
down.

Well to borrow from the movie War Games....

"I'd piss on a spark plug if it would do any good."

You sound like you might be in need of some anger management.

As long as it's not a testimony glove.

I think if you did this you would be escorted out of the building very quickly.

During the civil rights era protesters, when being arrested,
would not "resist arrest" but would go totally limp. That would
require two cops per protester to carry them to the paddy
wagon. The Mormons, if confronted with such tactics would have
to have a couple of elders volunteer to carry you out.\

If there were four or five doing it in a single ward, that might
pose a logistics problem for "Mormon security."

I read that the letter is supposed to be read somewhere besides Sacrament Meeting. Does that mean the Bishop or member of the Bishopric will tailor the letter according to the audience? Elders or Sisters?

Some wards read it over the pulpit after all the children went off to Primary. That's what happened in the 2 wards in our chapel. Judging from the reaction in my ward, many members were squirming during the reading and afterwards.

Thanks SII. The image of the members squirming does reflect what I've been noticing on Facebook! I've been surprised by how many active members have the rainbow-striped profile to support SSM. I've suspected some are in for cultural/family reasons only-- shelves are breaking!

hmmmm . . . . good question.

I'm not sure, myself. But the image of people standing up and
making the silent statement does tickle my irony-bone.

I suggest a uniquely Mormon form of protest that would be effective any week or every week. Men should wear white-and-delightsome shirts, symbolizing purity as opposed to their dark-and-loathsome trousers. Along with their heavenly shirts, they should wear rainbow ties.

Some of our finest employees are trans and to keep these sould from the blessings of the temple causes heartburn in me. If the church ever accepts the most authentic members of society, I shall return.
