As much as "mainstream" Mormonism wants to distance itself from its polygamist roots, this religion is directly responsible for bringing the practice of polygamy to the United States, Canada, and Mexico. So the next time Mormons use the tired old line, "We don't practice that anymore," when referring to currently practicing polygamists, remind them that Mormonism brought polygamy to this continent.

I get tired of Mormons acting as though there is no connection between their religion and currently practicing polygamists, when polygamy would most likely not even exist in the Western Hemisphere if it weren't for their religion.

Eternal marriage is plural marriage. An LDS man is going to have multiple wives in the eternities; an LDS woman is going to share her husband with "Sister Wives".

The FLDS and other splinter groups rightly call out LDS, Inc. on their hypocrisy. Polygamy is as central to Mormonism as missionary work and temples.

Thank you! I was talking to a Mormon woman who said very dismissively that Mormons "don't believe that anymore." She made it sound like the current church simply walked away from all their previous beliefs, when those beliefs are still canonized in their scriptures. I can't believe how these "cafeteria-style" Mormons ignore or close their eyes to what's right in front of their faces. Maybe this eyes-closed approach creates the massive anxiety that makes them take so many prescription medications.

Most wards in Utah have a few covert polygamists and everyone ignores them. Some areas of Utah have more polygamists than not. My brother lives in a county like that.

Exactly.

It's part of their legacy. It is the fruit of their labor (in their goofy-speak).

Also, notice they did not remove that section from their "scripture" or repudiate what was taught, let alone apologize.

You haven't exactly heard them openly admit that the men who started that practice in Mormonism, using God as the justification, did something they are ashamed of and wish had not been done. Instead they look ridiculous trying to convince everyone that God needed the practice then. Sheesh.

They didn't stop the practice of sealing multiple wives with the intention of being with the all in an afterlife.

So, whenever they say, "Oh, we don't practice that anymore," it sounds irresponsible, uninformed and shallow.
