I admit that I don't know who is related to whom in the hierarchy

of the Church especially the close connections between the top 15

(well, 13 now) and the Q's of 70. But I'm wondering if this guy

is a likely candidate to replace Boyd K?

https://www.lds.org/church/leader/allan-f-packer?lang=eng

The only thing I've been told about him up to now is that he's

dryer than dust and not even as charismatic as his old man.

What do you think?

Nepotism, possibly. That has happened a lot within various GA quorums.

Will that nepotism involve Packer relatives? I think that's unlikely. We exmos aren't the only ones who disliked Boyd K: I doubt that the other apostles were very fond of him either.

The guy was a complete jerk. Dallin Oaks once said of him, "You can't stage manage a grizzly bear."

Gérald Caussé - First Counselor in the Presiding Bishopric.
Because he is from Europe and the church is dying there and bros think european apostle will just give such a powerful boost to european saints.

Edward Dube - from the First Quorum of the Seventy.
Well, because he is ...........young......

the church is full of paranoia and always has been. Fearful leaders appoint their vetted friends and relations, as the Mormons always have. Uchtdorf for instance looked like an outsider, but he wasn't. he was Monson's best friend.

Nepotism is on a roll.

As in the days of old.

Old men in a new role.

The top 3 in the running for the current vacancies are: James J. Hamula, Ronald A. Rasband, and L. Whitney Clayton.

I don't know if there is nepotism involved with them but I wouldn't be surprised.

I was thinking they might start playing "race" cards, you know get a few Latinos, Pacific Islanders or Asians (it might be awhile before we have a Black Apostle).

But so far they've used son-in-laws and "inside trackers" BYU Presidents, Lawyer friends, etc...

They used to have the office "Assistant(s) to the Q12 which I believe Packer was the last to hold that position. This was basically a grooming/training position and you could pick one of those to be the next apostle. Then they did away with it, and it became the First Quorum of Seventies. Everyone (even the apostles) assumed this would be the harvesting group for the next apostles. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assistant_to_the_Quorum_of_the_Twelve_Apostles

If Alan Packer is put in the Quorum you fucking know there was nepotism.

The two opening have just made a few people VERY excited. My guesses are:

Tadpole Calister
Whitnit Clayton

I ALSO believe they may go for a Hispanic pick and excite every TBM in the world that this is truly God's one and only worldwide church.

It's amazing that when you read the bios of these men that they are truly outstanding in the arena of Capitalism.

Nothing wrong with that at all, but it seems of no consequence to the calling of being a disciple of Jesus Christ.

Does anyone know if there has been an apostle since the 1920's that was not a descendent of a early mormon royalty?

Are any of these current top 13 without mormon royalty among their ancestors?

Uchtdorf is not related to anyone from pioneer stock.

I also recall hearing the Robert Hales was not related to anyone in previous leadership.

UNTIL --Daughter got divorced and son was found too drunk to stand -- Came to the end of his term and was "" Released into obscurity""

My money's on

Shikamin A. Honda
and
Sovenja Komenova

These guys are just as legit as any nepotistic choices. Besides, they're long overdue for some serious new blood.

I will say that Allan F. Packer has got the right middle initial for the job.

But no, he wont be selected as an apostle. No one likes him, and his father's political base within the church was seriously eroded over the last 20 years.

Nepotism usually ensures loyalty in the club. I believe that's why they are not diverse, and why I am betting that they will stay white and delightsome and RELATED in some way.

This incestual approach has not served the leadership well...
