Not a fan of so-called 'reality shows' as most tend to celebrate stupidity. Not a fan of religion either as it tends to prey upon our fears for the sole purpose of picking our pockets.

To be clear, Phil Robertson does not speak for god. Nor does anyone else, least of all Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar. Any credible information or evidence to the contrary is, as always, more than welcome.

Never had kids so I don't claim to be an expert on raising them. I have, however, been a kid and can claim at least some expertise regarding how not to do it.

Some food for thought:

"Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life’s longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you yet they belong not to you.
You may give them your love but not your thoughts,
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow,
which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them,
but seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.
You are the bows from which your children
as living arrows are sent forth.
The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite,
and He bends you with His might
that His arrows may go swift and far.
Let your bending in the archer’s hand be for gladness;
For even as He loves the arrow that flies,
so He loves also the bow that is stable." -- Kahlil Gibran

Hi, Timothy!

::::::::::::::::waving:::::::::::::::::::::::::

Again with the arrow analogy... interesting.

The only reality show I will watch is "Cold Justice" where the team of a cop and a prosecutor review unsolved cold murder cases.

That's a good tonic for those quiverfull nutjobs, Tim. A far better use of the bow and arrow metaphor, I'd say.

Shot through some hearts with parents to blame. They give love a bad name.

... is labeled a reality show. Its real (for the most part) and dabbles in real American history which is why I think it fits very nicely on the History Channel.

There's not much to 'learn' from TLC's offerings (Honey Boo-Boo, Duggars, etc.) other than the fact that there are more than a few bona-fide morons out there.

Think I'll watch me a little NHRA Champeenship Drag Racin'!

Somewhere I have a copy of 'The Profit', by Kellogg All-Bran.

Funny stuff.

Not just freeing caged birds... Look at the 20th-century totalitarian states, communist and fascist, where children were bred for national goals. I like to think that there are indeed karmic ties between parents and children, and that the incoming ones are not just using their parents' genes to get launched.

... the ultimate form of narcissism.

Reason being that the child, in every case, is not a willing participant. It may come to like its situation, but it did not choose to be there.

I love this...have read it to my children from about 10 years old. Too bad so many parents don't get it.

I have always loved that piece from Kahlil Gibran. It is so true. Much truer than anything I ever heard about children from the LDS.

As a parent who has raised children, let me say that it's a
daunting task. The point is to be in total control in the
beginning at infancy and to be able to lessen and lessen your
control as they grow and mature.

They are not your property, but they are your responsibility.
Part of a parent's task is to raise them so that you can
exercise less and less responsibility while they take more and
more responsibility as they grow.

And remember, the final result does not need your approval.
