My cousin "liked" this video on Facebook so I had to take a look and see what it was all about. If you don't already know, "The Sons of Helaman" is a Mormon organization that exists primarily to treat "porn addiction". In short, to treat dirty,filthy, no good masturbators, mostly young men.

I haven't been around Mormon culture in 30 or so years, so when I see something like this it's a bit shocking because it's hard for me to imagine people really think like this. He compares this "addiction" to various wars and clearly he believes Satan is as real as the guy who lives next door. The scary thing is that this guy is a credentialed mental health professional (I think).

If you want a glimpse into the cult mindset, take a look at this video in whole or in part. How disgraceful to tell young men (who all masturbate) that their eternal salvation depends on whether or not they control this impulse and that what they are doing is vial and evil.

I blasted it of Facebook and said what a complete embarrassment this organization is.

Even as a TBM youth, I thought that the "self mastery" term was a bad choice when talking about *not* masturbating. And I would hear other boys laugh when it was used.

ex-boyfriends went to this place. He had a mission call and had to not go. She ran into him recently. He has left the lds church. He has gone back to school and just finished his master's degree. When she was dating him, he felt like a total failure because of his porn addiction. I was glad to hear he is doing so well after going through this kind of abuse.

I am not going to ask any ladies to comment, but it would seem to me that this should apply to the Sisters of Helaman as well.

Yeah the Morg needs to stop pretending spanking it is wrong. This isn't really any different then telling people breathing is a sin and they should stop. This kind of thinking causes a LOT of harm.

I have a family member who is mostly TBM working in the field of psychology so even though it was gut-wrenching to watch the site, I did just to be in the loop.

On facebook I posted what an embarrassment the organization is. Those comments are gone, of course.

Mormons don't like to be told they are ridiculous, even when they advertise their insanity in a public forum.
