So when I posted this I found out about this Elder Clarke thing. Search as I might, I cannot find out how that chapter of Preach My Gospel could triple anyone's income. Maybe you can find "the secret."

"Elder Clarke told us that if we want to triple our income in life, we need to become converts to chapter 8 of P.M.G."

This is the guy I think.

Maybe it is this guy.

I don't see the connection.

Maybe this Clarke person also promised these people tripled incomes.

Maybe it is Ron Clarke.

"On tuesday Elder Ron Clarke came and spoke. He said at the beginning of his talk, "I bring you President Monson's love, his best wishes, and his prayers. President Monson knows all of you." That was so nice to hear and to know that the prophet of God prays for us out here and prays for our families I'm sure, and that he knows us and cheers us on. Elder Clarke spoke with real authority and power. It wasn't like an Elder Holland or the Quorum of the Twelve but it with authority. One thing I liked was he said, "First you run with your heart, then with your mind, and then with your feet." He was talking about long distance running but really applicable to our lives. At the end of his talk he said "I'd pay $100,000 dollars to be a missionary." It was so powerful and he was serious, you could tell. He really would lay down $100,000 dollars to be a missionary again."

He seems a little obsessed with money and what it can buy.

"I bring you President Monson's love, his best wishes, and his prayers. President Monson knows all of you."

Doesn't that sound more like just a line that he'd say because it SOUNDS good. Well, I bet he doesn't use that line now. Prez Monson probably has difficulty recognizing his nearest and dearest by now.

Boiler-plate, referring to the revered cult leader?

Nooooo, they wouldn't do that would they?

So very true.

So some General Authority promises more money just by doing things like make goals and act on them in a religious context. It is similar to this...

"What if I told you that if an individual fish hatching from one of a billion eggs in the ocean simply ate right, exercised and practiced situational awareness, he or she could reliably live out a full natural lifespan.

You’d laugh, right?"

What if I told you that if an individual born Mormon in the world simply followed The World of Wisdom as it is modernly followed (hot drinks/alcohol prohibitions only), exercised their testimony in praying, paying, and obeying and listened to the promptings of The Holy Ghost (practiced situational awareness), he or she could reliably make more income than other Mormons not following this plan as well as live out a full natural lifespan.

You’d laugh, right?

I would, but this is what so many Mormon believe.

I wished I had invested all of the tithing I paid for thirty years. I'd be a much richer person with a better retirement than I now enjoy. Oh, I am able to enjoy my retirement because for the twenty years prior to retiring I had left the church and was investing at least 10% of my earnings towards being able to retire.

The non-tangible and non-monetary benefits in your Mormon-free retirement are pretty stellar I'm sure.
