Greenall gin and tonic and Bloom gin and Fentiman's tonic. Plus Bloom gin and Fentiman's Rose Lemonade.

The latter one? If there's a Heaven, I hope they have that drink on tap. It's awesome.

Now I have to write reviews of them. Oh, well!

Try Hendricks Gin - Rose and cucumber flavors. A personal fave.

I hated gin as a teen. Now gin and tonic is a favorite.

A great gin cocktail to try is a "French 75"

I guess I should give gin another try. I got seriously shitfaced on Gilbey's Gin back about 1971 and haven't touched it since. Bombay Sapphire looks interesting...

When the taste buds start to decline, the gin will no more chagrin.

Ron, Bombay Sapphire is a favourite of my wife.

But you could try Bloom gin. It's more floral.

That's good stuff

M@t

P.S.> I've a gin story (and a general crazy short trip story) to share, when it comes up again.

Bombay Saphire is a staple in my pantry.

I like it with a bit of tonic and a twist of lime on the rocks.

My father was at many of the above ground "shots" (nuclear bombs) which were done N-NW of Las Vegas. This was the 60s when it was expected to have bottles of booze in the office, do 11ses, 3 martini lunches and such.

Those Cold Warriors were a hard-drinking lot who subscribed to the Churchill recipe for the perfect dry martini: pour gin on ice and show it a bottle of vermouth. At least at some of the shots, the lads bought a case of vermouth and put it on the bomb tower. That way all they needed to do for the perfect martini in some seedy Vegas joint was wave a glass of gin in the air to absorb some of the vaporized vermouth.

Different time, and not so long ago.

I say amen to my2cents recommendation of the Hendricks. My favorite for gin and tonic or martini.

Also try a Tanqueray Rangpur Martini--made with Rangpur limes, juniper, bay leaf, ginger and other botanicals. I like it with a orange peel stuck with a clove if you like something exotic, spicy, and still dry.

The Tanqueray Malacca is easier on the palate than a lot of gins. It dials back the juniper and puts more emphasis on citrus--lemon and a bit of grapefruit. Makes a fantastic Greyhound.

Another Hendrick's vote.

A favorite low cal cocktail is Hendricks and Fresca with a twist.

But there's nothing like an excellent, well-made dirty gin martini!

Matt, have you or anyone you know tried real Absinthe?

I recall an article in Vanity Fair where someone was starting to make it again. It used to be illegal in the US.

A favorite of certain authors in the old days, a type of hallucinogenic...

an addict. Not the drink itself, I had it when it was first re-introduced, and it was nothing special. It has an overblown reputation because it became the drink of choice after the great wine blight
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_French_Wine_Blight

for a lot of people not used to hard spirits. But I know I would get hooked on all the accessories! Absinthe fountains, and spoons, and special glasses, and all that kind of jazz. I have practically every attachment the Singer Sewing Machine company ever made, even though all I do is mend tears, cuff pants, and do a little upholstery.

Stick to gin. Gin and orange juice--nothing simpler and nothing pleasanter.

I've tried Lucid brand absinthe myself. No hallucinations, but pretty good flavor (tastes kind of like good quality black licorice).

Hey Ex-sis,
The DH and I have a bottle of absinthe. I think it is disgusting. We only get it out when someone comes over to our house who has never had it, which is pretty much everyone. One glass of the suggested amount will quickly give you a buzz.

Hervey Willets--

A cautionary (but interesting) tale:
