Masochist vs. Sadist

It seems to me that the members of the church are becoming more and more masochistic. How can anyone except a masochist enjoy the dominating, demeaning mentality, hopelessness of LDS, INc? The leaders seem to be enjoying the process of filtering out everything about Mormonism that was light hearted, free spirited, and joyful. Members used to have more freedom to do things in the way that worked best for them. Missing a sacrament meeting wasn't the excuse for browbeating that it is today. Almost everything that used to be voluntary is now mandatory or shame and verbal abuse is disseminated broadly. The leaders seem joyless and sadistic. The members who resign or just walk away are those who want to take back the joy.

Anyone else sense this analogy?
