http://authoritynutrition.com/how-coffee-makes-you-live-longer/

Since I didn't start drinking coffee until I was 42, I figure I should drink about six cups a day for the rest of my life to make up for the health benefits I missed out on while I was a Mormon.

But don't hold your breath for a WoW do-over any time soon, even though about the only part of the original health law that is relevant and useful and enforced is the "no tobacco" thing ... minus the stupid part about its having benefit for treating bruises and sick cattle.

My father put a giant tobacco poultice on my head for a bad bruise when I was a child, I'm serious. Cheaper than an x-ray for a concussion (injured by a brother). Females, cattle, what's the difference...? It smelled horrible. I should have dried the tobacco out and sold cigarettes... =[\

Thanks for those words of wisdom, Joseph. Ugh.

IS that your father could have made you ill from that remedy. There's a reason the first time one smokes or chews tobacco, that person throws up afterwards. Children who have to pick tobacco leaves ingest tobacco's contents and are often sick from it because they're not provided gloves. I can honestly say I have no idea what it does to cows, though.

SO much for the WOW on a another issue.

My father was also a crazy Mormon prepper. Tons of food storage in a hidden underground vault. (The lid to the vertical ladder was covered with tin and dirt...) Our dining room was reinforced as a nuclear fallout shelter. There was a hidden closet-pulled out from the wall where guns were hidden...

Blast From the Past. Is that the Christopher Walken, Brenden Frasier, Sissy Spacek, Alicia Silverstone movie where Walken locks his family underground, but it was a plane crash, not the bomb going off...? Funny. Memories...

God, Himself, told us in revelation that tobacco is for sick
cattle.

The largest owner of dairy cattle in the world is the LDS
Church. They have a HUGE cattle ranch in Florida. So of
COURSE they own a modest tobacco plantation in order to take
care of their cattle, right?

OF COURSE the veterinarian courses at BYU discuss all the ways
to use tobacco in treating sick cattle, right?

Or do even Mormons not believe that part of God's revelation?

Love this. How many pounds of tobacco is stored on the church owned cattle farms? Who grows it? How is it used?

I've read the word of wisdom was a joke. To get back at Emma and her bitch session about the tobacco the men in authority responded with "we'll get rid of our tobacco if you get rid of your tea and coffee."

Another piece of bullshit Mormon history.

Coffee rocks.

Considering that I've got longevity genes from my dad's side of the family, plus my love of coffee, I should be around to at least 100.

Its the caffeine in the coffee that makes the difference.
If you suffer from constant bladder infections, drop the coffee, and introduce cranberry gels. You'll be glad you did.
(Or, drink non-caffeine coffee.)

Actually it is not the caffeine that makes the difference.

from the article:

Coffee, believe it or not, happens to be the biggest source of antioxidants in the Western diet, outranking both fruits and vegetables… combined

Throw in a few coffee enemas and you can cut the oral intake down a bit.

Thanks, randy. You inspired me to have my first cup of the day.

That may well be true, but if I had to live my life as a Mormon, I would rather die sooner.

I should live forever considering how much coffee I drink. ;-)

...said the Hatter, "it's very easy to take more than nothing."

"Nobody asked YOUR opinion," said Alice.

Remember these surveys, etc. are about the risk factor.
"As you can see from the graph, the more coffee people drank, the lower their risk of death was."

These kinds of studies are always about the level of risk. That means that not everyone that drinks a large number of cups of coffee a day is going to live longer than...other people.
Remember that people die of dozens of reasons from accidents, to diseases.
"When they looked at particular causes of death, they found that the coffee drinkers were less likely to die from infections, injuries and accidents, respiratory disease, diabetes, stroke and heart disease."

It's wise to remember key words: "less likely"... and "cause and effect" is not established...
"Of course, this is a so-called observational study, which can not prove that coffee caused the reduction in risk. But it is a good reassurance that coffee is, at the very least, NOT the villain it has been made out to be."

I'm sure they can find studies of people that live very long lives that do not drink coffee. It's not a panacea, or a guarantee of a long life.
