Manny Pacquiao's mom blamed her son's conversion from Catholicism to Born Again Christianity for his defeat to boxer Manuel Marquez in 2012.

I wonder if she blames his turning away from Catholicism to his loss in last night's joke of a fight?

Manny Pacquiao seems to be the new poster boy for Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN) and it makes me want to barf.

TBM wouldn't give a rat's ass about Pacquiao except for his vast potential as a donor/tither and the fact that he claims he heard "the voice of God."

Supposedly, religion turned him from a boozer and a womanizer to a squeaky clean bible thumper. (And I guess beating another man's brains out in the boxing ring qualifies as another type of squeaky clean "thumper." -- so Godlike?)

the appearance of going soft might be a natural outcome of going up against something like Floyd Mayweather in the ring, that more than anything else.

I wonder how the after-fight prayer meeting with Floyd went. (Maybe it was after Floyd's celebration trip to the strip club.)

Pacquioa can't be all bad: he's joined Stephen Colbert as a front man for the California Pistachio Association! What a nut!

Oh, sure -- because the supposed all-powerful god of the universe determines who wins a bloody human brawl based on which of the thousands of versions of him you believe on.

That makes perfect sense.

He said today that it was because of a sore shoulder. (He must not have told his mama that).

The last bareknuckle fight in America was fought in southern Mississippi, on (a hot - over 100°F. - day) July 8, 1889, between John L. Sullivan and Jake Killrain.

The Kilrain-Sullivan fight is considered to be a turning point in boxing history because it was the last world title bout fought under the London Prize Ring Rules and therefore the last bare-knuckle heavyweight title bout. It was one of the first American sporting events to receive national press coverage.

A crowd of nearly 3,000 had gathered in relative secret, traveling 100 miles on three trains from New Orleans under the cover of darkness the previous night.

They had come to witness an illegal activity. A bare-knuckles boxing match, a sporting event deemed illegal in all 38 states, including Mississippi, where Gov. Robert Lowry had offered a $1,500 reward for the arrest of the fighters.

Hence, the need for secrecy. The ring had been erected the night before by a crew working under the light of torches.

The fans who rode the trains through the night held tickets that had no exact location, only “Destination and Return.”

No boxing match in American history had ever created so much excitement. Newspapers had carried stories about the two fighters for months.

And no boxing match like it would ever be seen again.

For on July 8, 1889, John L. Sullivan faced Jake Kilrain for the world heavyweight title in what would be the last heavyweight championship held under London Prize Ring Rules — bare knuckles.

The Kilrain-Sullivan fight can rightly be listed among the greatest fights of the pre-modern era.

Look up the Sullivan-Kilrain fight or wikipedia or google either fighter or the fight itself.

It lasted over 75 rounds!

You are way off, I fought a bareknuckle fight with jimmy Peterson sometime in the late 60s. 1960s, not 1860s.

The person who really lost the match was the one who paid $100 to watch on his own TV set. He is legion.

The arrogant Mayweather is the world's highest earning athlete. Pacquiao earns 400 euros a month as a politician. Nice guy, too. I know which one I respect more. It's no contest.
