How so?

As was stated later in this thread, who would bother to follow, much read the kate kelly thread and then report on it here?

The question still stands, but you can keep diverting back to me if you want, because as you so accurately describe with your acerbic intuition, having never met me or having no clue who I am, surely your bedroom/internet narcissistic diagnosis must be right on. *eyeroll*

I found it amusing.

Here's a rough transcript (without stoopid emojis). Now we can quote it. Huzzah!

Context: She's amused by a facebook conversation she saw that's winding down after 3 hours of criticizing her over the laptop.
===

KK: What in the actual fuck is this thread?!?!??
Anon: LOL

(emojis back and forth)

KK: I see you your lol, and up the ante to a yolo

(more emojis)

KK: whoops

(lots more emojis)

Anon: BUT THE REAL QUESTION IS HOW IS KATE KELLY POSTING EMOJIS IF SHE DOESNT HAVE A LAPTOP
Anon: ??????
Anon: DUN DUN DUN
Anon: THE PLOT THICKENS
KK: THE WHOLE FUCKING POINT OF THIS THREAD IS I GOT A NEW LAPTOP MOTHERFUCKERS
Anon: BUT WHO WAS PHONE
Anon: BUT WHO WAS LAPTOP
Anon: And to be clear, she got the air, not the pro
Anon: Kate flaunting her laptop privilege all over this thread WOW not everyone has emojis in the third world
Anon: ITS THE AIR FOLKS. NOT THE PRO
Anon: This is a classic goddamn thread anna and Kate go team
KK: I got the Pro just to spite every last one of you on this thread. But, most especially [lawyer who criticized her]

4 hours later:

KK: That was a joke _________, not that it matters. But, I did get the Air.

===

I suspect people are focusing on "THE WHOLE FUCKING POINT OF THIS THREAD IS I GOT A NEW LAPTOP MOTHERFUCKER".

Wasn't that the point of the thread? Up to and including this line, the conversation is completely normal with a little teasing.

The other bit is "I got the Pro just to spite every last one of you on this thread. But, most especially [lawyer who criticized her]"

Obviously a joke. Someone's a bit thick, so she had to go back and explain.

Is it that women shouldn't say "motherfucker"? Should she stick to "oh my heck" and "motherfreaker" like a properly submissive little mormon girl?

You can take a mormon out of the cult, but you can't always take the mormon out of the exmormon.

I'm at the point that I don't really understand "Ordain Women." Why didn't she ask for the few hundred to get her old laptop repaired? I have a great laptop that I use professionally, and I bought it second-hand from a friend who constantly upgrades to the latest and newest computers on the market--for only a few hundred dollars. I did have to wait in line, but is this un-ordained woman too spoiled to use the library, while she looks for a computer?

I agree that she's a narcissist who likes the power and attention. She wants her name to be remembered, and she's not motivated enough to write a book.

Anyway--my question is WHY? Why would anyone want to be fake-ordained to a fake priesthood? If Kate Kelly were smart, she would make up her own ordination ritual for women, and invent her own Aronelkezdick Priesthood, or whatever, and make herself the Grand Poobah-esse, presiding over it. Charge women money to be ordained.

I would just as soon cry over the fact that I will never reach the 5th Level of Scientology. Cults. Ugh.

I'm certain the downtown Nairobi Public Library has newer Macs that'll read the files from a broken laptop. Why didn't she just go there? They'll probably even lend her a computer when she needs to fly to Somalia, and she can bring one of their internets with her.

And since the priesthood's not real, women aren't oppressed or beaten or abused in its name. They're already equal to men! Because the priesthood is fake, girls don't actually get taught that they should be subservient to their 12 year old brothers. Ordain Women is just wasting time and energy on a problem that doesn't even exist!

Yeah, looks like Kate committed a PUI (posting under the influence). Been there, done that, got the trophy to prove it.

I'm just wondering how her frequent use of the word M-F-er would go over in sacrament meeting if she were ever actually ordained to the priesthood and...say...made Bishop? Whew!! She'd set that podium on fire. Now THAT would liven up the joint!

;o)

You buy what you can AFFORD and $1500 IS a very very expensive system. http://store.apple.com/us/buy-mac/macbook-air I am sure there is not one among us that wouldn't LOVE to have one of these. This was a WANT not a NEED. She wanted and she stuck her hand out.

And I suppose as well as having no money she has no credit either. I am still paying off my $300 laptop I bought for RfM work. But I suppose it is just a hell of a lot easier to stick your hand out. Mind you, this is a recent trend. In the 17ish years I have been around the exmo movement this crap has only shown its head in the last few years. Many times I have deleted trolls saying not to believe us/trust us because we were out to MAKE MONEY on people. Look around folks. There are those that are trying to use people that NEED HELP to MAKE MONEY.

Profound and incisive. You're more qualified than anyone to call her out on it. Years of devoted service, and you've gotten very little personal attention, let alone your fifteen minutes of fame.

I'd like to send you $300, but that isn't the point. Your values, decisions, and independence are far more important.

Doesnt sound like the kind of language a believer would use-especially on a public site. I swear all the time, but I wouldnt use that kind of languag3on FB. I am skeptical too

Kate Kelly may not be a believer any more. She probably hasn't believed in years. I'd expect that many of us, when chattering on unmoderated sites, would use similar language.

Whatever her personal views are, publically she claims to be a Mormon believer. I dont think using words like motherf%÷¥¥9. would be helpful with her fan base. I could be wrong, butit seems out, of character.I am talking about the language only, not the request for abcomputer which was her.

1) agree with baneberry. Not everyone who identifies themselves online is truthful.
2) maybe she is drunk if it is her. And... Any of you ever have a few too many after just leaving tscc?
3) she asked for money for a laptop and she got money for a laptop. We always whine and moan here about financial transparency. She was straight up in her asking and I for one can't blame her for trying, even if I myself wouldn't use the same tactic or donate to someone who did. Not a fan of crowd sourcing unless it's for medical expenses as a general rule.
Which reminds me of a friend-of-a-friend who created a Go Fund Me account called "Help repay student Lones." I very nearly suggested they had a solid case for a refund instead...

Or that the friend-of-a-friend should have been prosecuted for fraud: misuse of funds.

Knowing how anal (ex-)Mormons are about giving money to anyone except the church (and no small amount either), I don't understand why she put her reputation on the line.

That said: who cares. If she's comfortable with it and people are willing to pinch in, why not. People like to help people and I see nothing wrong with that.

What really pisses me off is seeing a sleezebag like DCP, who spent his entire life living off tithing funds in exchange for sub-standard, pseudo-scientific propaganda for a totalitarian cult bitch about it. I have only contempt for scum like that.

From the start, Kelly transformed Ordain Women into a following of her personally. First, pretending she was the founder, when in fact there were many other women behind the concept and founding for years before they even heard of her. (Giving her the lead was a mistake, obviously.) As soon as she took the lead, she redirected supporters to support her instead of the principles upon which the movement is based.

Her degrading comments about other people are numerous (even the go fund me characatures the computer repair guy as a "genius" in quotation marks to demean his intellect.) She claims those who stay in the Mormon church after her excommunication are the least fit. But no one can criticize her without a narcissistic rant. Her excommunication was a narcissitic injury, not rejection from a church she truly believes in.

Ex-Mormons are generally honest about their non-belief. We have good reasons and do not pretend to be believers unjustly persecuted by our church. Kelly is a narcissistic liar.

And like all cult leaders, the first thing she does is seek out those willing to pay her homage by asking to be financially supported. All cult leaders seek special status to have others finance their special wants. Whether its sex or iMac laptops.

Joseph and Jim Jones and other cult leaders started by asking for small donations too.

They would go around Nauvoo to different households and borrow small sums of money, which would add up to a nice wad. When it came time to repay, they would go around to another group of people and borrow small sums again. Then they would take the second set of funds borrowed to pay off the first group. Quite a clever tactic.

After awhile, Smith got more nervy, and started hitting up the more wealthy residents for hundreds and sometimes a couple of thousand or so. He got very chummy with David Dutton Yearsley, the most wealthy man in town, and hit him up for 2000.00. Bet he never got paid back, either.

Lessee, first there's this statement:

>Narcissists react with rage when called out on their actions.

Given that I first offered this analysis years ago, I'm mortified at how it's being used to do Ms. Kelly's detractors work for them (insert big Cabbie speech about that beachfront property on the Great Salt Lake if anyone really believes LDS interests aren't involved in manipulating this media event).

As evidence, I'll cite the source it came from if need be (it's a high level volume on cognitive therapy, and I think I still have a copy packed away somewhere), and I'm doubtful anyone else can name it. I also had a grad level class on the subject of narcissistic and borderline disorders 20-odd years ago, and before the glass house crowd engages in too much stone throwing, they better examine their own wardrobe and make certain they're not standing there naked.

One component of narcissism is a huge tendency to generalize about one's own experiences and assume they're applicable to someone else. The vocabulary word on that one is "egocentric."

I don't begrudge Kate Kelly a new MacBook Air since she's in Kenya doing hands-on human rights activities and not engaging in armchair rock throwing (I'll use that since "turd tossing" would be a little offensive to some). Last I checked, the terrorists weren't targeting rural areas in the United States.

And as for her language, well, she may have future as a cabdriver.

Now how did I stumble onto an Exmormon version of a Relief Society Meeting anyway?

that a $300 computer would have done the job. No NEED for a top of the line. THAT is the point. She should have purchased what she could AFFORD. Again, do you see me expecting hand outs to pay for my $300, very serviceable computer? NO, because I buy what I can AFFORD even if I have to buy on credit. No one NEEDS a $1500 computer. It is a LUXURY. And really Cabbie, since when did you stop holding people accountable for their choices? This is what KK did and it has NOTHING to do with LDSInc. And yes, after 16+ years of service, 8-10 hours EVERY DAY with the exception of Day Off and never putting my hand out ONCE I feel damn comfortable throwing the stone or examining my own wardrobe.

She's not in Kenya to do human rights work. She's there because her husband is getting a PhD in anthropology and they are spending a year (or two, I forget) in Kenya for his PhD. She claims to work as a human rights lawyer wherever she lives (has relocated several times) but is not in Kenya for her work.

Her husband and she explained their move to Kenya for his PhD on Mormon Stories.

Her work as a human rights lawyer is overplayed, if you ask me. I have yet to see proof of anything she's actually done other than workshops or seminars.

I heard her make comments about a woman she claimed to help from Cuba that misrepresented what is allowed in Cuba so that it made me wonder. Her work is very vague, and involves no sacrifices that I have ever observed.

Not like she's struggling financially.

My understanding is that she is living in Kenya (where she is NOT a lawyer)...and I read that there have been significant expenses, Kenya-to-USA-and-back, because of family medical situations here in the USA.
