I saw a paper at my parents house. It's a list of ways people feel with and without the spirit. The last one on the how you feel without the spirit is the funniest.
"You are a slave to your appetites and passions. You over indulge food, sleep, and stimulating entertainment. Your speech and behavior are angry and violent. You lack self-discipline in the critical areas of life."
I didn't know overeating and oversleeping were caused by not having the spirit. Have all of you started overeating and oversleeping after you left?

Shoot, I "lacked the spirit" a lot more as a member.

The church makes you lose control of your life, which makes you more susceptible to depression, addiction, and other avoidance behaviors.

Now I have control of my life, it's great! I can't believe how many good options there are!

Well, I guess it's good to know that I haven't lost the spirit yet. Imagine that.

So I guess all those obese mormons, who sleep too much, don't have any "spirit," huh?

the same. except I'm not obsessed with if I'm feeling it or if it's guiding me.

I used to feel 'the spirit' most strongly when playing or listening to music. (But I didn't feel it when I asked if the Book of Mormon was true).

After I left the church, I really thought I might lose that connection to the music.

Didn't happen. In fact, I felt it MORE.

Explain THAT, Mormons.

As far as I can tell, I haven't fallen victim to any of the evils described there. Of course, I have redefined the meaning of it. I do jack off, laugh loudly, get drunk and speak evil of the lord's annointed, but all in moderation, of course.

"You lack self-discipline in the critical areas of life."

Translation: You are an alcoholic druggie sex addict at heart, but going to church every week keeps you sober, straight and STD free.

Feeling the "Spirit" is an emotional response induced by internal or external stimulus. I felt it when I really did not want to go on a mission and after hours of prayer I was told I did not have to go, but I ignored the Spirit and went anyway. The peer pressure was too much. What a mistake. I cried all the way across the Pacific.
