I know. I'm on "vacation" from RfM. However, I was directed to a site a couple of days ago and decided to share some information.

My DS (TBM) is a geek like me and was recently the lead developer for lds.org (he left the employ of the Church Technology department for other employment over a year ago). He texted the URL of a site seemingly developed at BYU but tied to familysearch.org, the church's genealogical site. The URL allows me to invoke an app, after signing in with my lds.org credentials, and find relatives. Since there have been postings here regarding our LDS ancestry, I thought I'd share mine. Now, this app will also find non-LDS famous ancestors, so I have included a list of U. S. Presidents to whom it says I am related as well as a few just plain famous Americans.

Susan I/S has my e-mail address so, if any of you still have your lds.org credentails and they are active or have LDS relatives who have an account, I can provide the URL and you can have a look for yourselves.

Here 'tis (and yes, Steve Benson, as unfortunate as it may be for you to know, we are related by blood, not just by marriage as I had hitherto surmised):

Quite tangled, eh?!

This is only a portion of what I got back.

Of course, as with a-n-y-t-h-i-n-g performed by LDS "genealogists", I am somewhat dubious of this information as a whole. but, even the LDS can be correct from time to time.

At the very least, it was entertaining to me. For 30 minutes. *grin*

Anyway, my real point being that most of us multi-generational LDS folk are so very intertwined that some of us could potentially (and facetiously) be our own granpa/grandma! Is it any less surprising the current Q12+3 are all related?

Not to me.

Now, back to my "vacation".

I've been involved in genealogy since I was 13 and am now a curator on Geni.com. The Global Family Tree now has over 85million individual profiles connected. The world really is a very small place. I am not in the least surprised at your results (although still fascinate me).

As they say, in the future, you will either be the ancestor of everyone, or of no-one.

This is actually the coolest thing the church (or BYU) has ever done - if it's real and accurate. I have my doubts.

I am, for a bit, until I can have a little chat with my wife about the current apostate state of my brain.

Thanks for the well wishes! I'll be checking in from time to time to read, but will seldom post...unless the need is too great or the opportunity too ripe.

Take care your yourself! I thoroughly enjoy your posts.

I knew there was a lot of family ties - so to speak. But, someone, please, explain to me what "removed" means? Once, twice, thrice, etc? I get lost in that part.

"Removed" is simply the number of rungs up or down the generational ladder. For example, you have first cousins, the children of your aunts and uncles and with whom you have common grandparents.

The children of those first cousins would be your first cousins, once removed. The grandchildren of those same first cousins would be your first cousins, twice removed. And so on.

Your parents had first cousins of their own. Their children are your second cousins with whom you have common great-grandparents. The children of your second cousins would be your second cousins, once removed. And so on.
