I don't know why but Mormons are very arrogant and say things like we are the truth, we are true Christians. I am sick of Mormon arrogance! Even on Mormon.org they are

I see it as a reflection of the times, with women being judged based on their lack of muscle and bulk. Look at the all the old line churches.

Old & New Testament writers, whatever their reasons (reality, for instance?) had female characters who were 'real'.

The BofM, along with Joseph's other efforts, were bereft of even weak female characters, much less real women. It's likely that females had a position in his life's frame of reference, and it wasn't vertical.
