Both are stories with good guys (Nephi/Harry Potter) and bad guys (Satan/Voldemort), resurrection, magical items (Liahona/wands), visions, wars, etc.

Is it really a stretch to believe in magic wands when you believe in a magic compass or magic rocks that light up?

At least the Harry Potter books are entertaining.

I have read neither so am unable to 'vote' on this question :)

I don't think there is any question that the Harry Potter books are vastly more entertaining then the Book of Mormon. And there is an argument to be made that learning by example is easier via the Harry Potter books.

Only mormons would want to defend the book of mormon over the Harry Potter novels, and like anyone else they are entitled to their opinion.

This is right up there with the question, which is easier to believe, the biblical version of the origin of man and his early history, or the explanations offered by accumulated and rationally evaluated evidence?

I think it’s more like the question, in a fight who would win: Superman or the Hulk?

Easier to "believe"? Don't understand the question. HP is a series of books that doesn't pretend to be anything other than fiction, so it isn't meant to be believed, just enjoyed and entertain.

Mormonism purposes that the BoM is to be believed. No, it's not believable.

That was my point. Both are fiction. One was just presented as fact.

Frankly, neither is at all plausible...

Please don't tell me that Harry Potter isn't real! What's a ordinary muggle like me to do without a strong belief system in a magical world?

You'll fall under the influence of Voldemort for sure.

I have read all the Harry Potter books, but never could get very far into the very boring book of Mormon. H.P. books create a coherent fictional universe and interesting characters and plots that nobody claims to be real history. They are entertaining and believable if one accepts the premise and world that the author creates.. This is necessary for any science fiction and fantasy book. They have not been used to start a money-making cult nor to deceive anyone. Yes, the author made money, just like any other best-selling fiction author. She never claimed to be anything else, nor to be doing anything else but writing fantasy fiction.

The Book of Mormon is boring, ill-written third-rate 19th century science fiction that a con man used to start a very harmful cult.
Much of the story does not even hang together as fiction, let alone fact. I have to say Harry Potter wins. I would give the same vote to Lord of the Rings.

I never did make it all the way - not even once - through the BoM. And I tried. Really. Several times.

But the plot, if any, would destroy Tigger's bounce, to say the least. I just couldn't take it.

I have not read so much as a single line from Harry Potter /JK Rowling's drivel. (I suffered through about 20 minutes of one of the movies, before wandering off to do ANYTHING else.) Even so, I am certain that HP is much better quality than the Utter POS BOM, which only has merit in the context of examples of how bad/ stupid/foolish/ absurd that anything might be. I have no use, at all, for HP. I might crack open a BOM in the interest of mocking MORmONISM or a MORmON to their face.

The book of mormon hands down.

Did you read who the Harry Potter kids ended up marrying?

Wait you mean the Book of Mormon isn't twoooooooo????? O_O

Harry Potter is super believable. I mean, the wizards and witches make everyone else forget they exist. The Book of Mormon doesn't have an explanation for its lack of evidence.
