I'm guessing the gap would be narrower in other developed nations.

The human race is only partly educable. I don't know why this is, but it has always been so. As a member of the underclass, I've met more than my share of dunderheads. My father attended college without learning critical thinking skills. I think he's immune to intellect and empathy.
