my letter. I resigned a year ago and yesterday was the first i'd heard of it from my brother. I was under the impression that resignations were confidential. Was it within the bishops "authority" to tell my parents about this? is there any grounds for a legal suit?

I wouldn't think that he should be allowed to annouce that. I would certainly be sending that Bishop a blazing letter!!! I don't know the law, but if you know a good lawyer, it seems to me it is TIME such a situation was taken to court so tscc HAS to toe the line or risk having to pay out some of its millions in compensation!

I'm sure he prayed about it first, because bishops always want to do the right thing.

Real churches go to. Great length to protect confidentiality.

Mormons systematically weaponize confidentiality.

Are we allowed to ask how old this person is?

The so called Confidentiality Loop in the LDS Church is huge. If a bishop decides he needs to tell the parents anything, he will do so. There is no expectation of confidentiality in the LDS Church.

Any Attorneys awake now who can answer some questions?

Sorry that happened to you. In your defense you can tell your parents you wanted to be the one to tell them, since you knew they would be upset and worry. (The bishop ends up looking like the interfering jerk.)

You can always give them the CES letter and tell them you had to follow your conscience and free agency... Good luck.

There is usually the expectation of confidentiality when it comes to clergy. Mormon Bishops are not trained clergy, so they have no problems being a jerk.

It's only something you might expect from professional clergy. Mormons are not professional and often discuss your most personal of data right in priesthood executive committee meeting.

How cult-like of them.
