I'm a big wino, and personally, I love the taste of a fresh, crisp, fruity lager, or unfiltered wheat beer in the summer, or a hearty stout in the winter. I'm thinking Yeungling, and Tankhouse

If you like orange drinks, you could always make an orangecicle/orange Julius type drink. Orange juice, vanilla, cream, sugar and vodka or rum. I think. Hard cider is really good too--and soft on the palate as far as alcohol goes.

If it's your first drink ever, treat yourself to something nice. :)

Try hard cider-Apple. Pear is delicious.

Cranberry, fresh lime, vodka, mineral/soda water (a decent vodka, not cheapest kind). Sip slowly, at home.

Rum and Coke if you like Coke, or rum and pineapple juice. Again, sip at home.

I like wine. You may want white/fruity wines to begin with. Reisling... (any wine sales help can advise you).

Be cautious and cheers!

...Smirnoff Ice, Mike's Hard Lemonade, Angry Orchard Cider, etc. You can have two or three of those with little or no danger. Then you can try something else as you get more comfortable.

I second that notion. It is very easy to drink and the bitter factor is low while being countered with the sour factor.

Vodka and orange juice is a sure-fire hit. If you don't like it, add more orange juice.

Or, my personal favorite, vodka and pineapple juice :)

A well made margarita is the perfect drink. Be very careful with them because you can get really, really drunk and not notice it.

Moderation & Guidance.

I still don't drink but I know an ex-mo who started drinking without somebody to help him learn how to drink responsibly and he became an alcoholic. Luckily he stopped himself before it was too late and got the necessary help.

You might like wine coolers. But about drinking...

1. Never drink alone.
2. When you go out to eat, down one before the meal arrives. Food is really yummy when you're tipsy.

If you'll be drinking wine:

Prosecco
A sangria
Reisling
Moscato

All of the above are somewhat lower in alcohol content, fruitier, and somewhat sweeter, and will go down well on an unaccustomed palate.

If you'll be drinking cocktails:

Rum-and-coke
Peach fuzz

If you'll be drinking beer:

Oatmeal stout
Lambic (if you like fruit)

Eat food, take sips of your drink, drink at least a glass or two of water beforehand.

Beer is awsome but it is an acquired taste... so much better than a soda or... It is a beautiful thing. Can you find someone who is experienced... maybe even a never mo that doesnt treat alcohol like a college frat does? That would be the best. If not try some fruity fu fu drinks... Just be aware that the part that gives a large part of the hang over is the sugar and dehydration... So be careful and if you have a bunch of sugary drinks, drink a bunch of water at the end of the nignt. Beer and a bloody at the end of a night is the best for me. Most of all R*E*L*A*X... And try to find someone that can show you the ropes so you find what you like... That will drasticly change over time.

As far as drinking alone goes... I come home quite often and have a beer on the porch alone, it is very relaxing... Just dont get drunk if you are in a fragile state or an emotional wreck. Dont let people freek u out about drinking it is normal and people have been doing it for 1000s of years.
Alcohol is good for you and it helps you unwind. I come from an area where seeing someone have a beer for lunch is like seeing someone have a Mt dew for lunch in slc. .othing wrong with it. Its the idoits around you that have the problem. I have been drinking since 15 and I am now in my 40s and probably havent had a hang over for the last 7 years. A hang over is ok every now and then... If the circumstance arises. But you will learn that is not the point. A nice buz and good company is the best!! I hope you get to experience it. It is hard to start drinking late in life... People tend to jump in with both feet. I rember the kids that never drank in high school were the craziest in college. They were the ones that would get themselves in deep and not be able to handle themselves... They were called entertainment! If they wernt at your house anyway.

If you are new to drinking:

Remember:

Alcohol doesn't take effect quickly. After that first sip or two, you have to wait 15 minutes or so before you feel anything. So WAIT!!!

Don't keep drinking because you don't feel anything yet. If you keep drinking it will hit you all of a sudden, and you will get sick. NOT what you want!

i'd be careful drinking liquor on your first time. If you do, don't drink much, the average liquor is 40% alcohol. i'd actually recommend a wine cooler like Mike's or Smirnoff Ice. But if you insist on liquor make sure you don't drink much, it will kick in and it will kick in HARD. If you want to try Vodka, I'd recommend a Screwdriver, that's vodka and orange juice, or a Fuzzy Naval, that's a Screwdriver with Peach Schnapps added in, nice and simple. Beer is an acquired taste. Personally I hate the mass produced American beers (they taste like pee water). I tend to go with either micro brews or imports. For wine, I like dry red wines (Bourgogne Pinot Noir rules all!). A tip btw, EAT before you drink, you won't feel it as much that way. I learned that the hard way when I first had Arak (which is even stronger, 50% I believe) and didn't have a very pleasant experience.

I remember my first drink and buzz as a new exmo. I just don't remember the last one 6 years later that landed me in hospital with30% chance of living through the night. Alcoholism had shut my organs down. Heck I was a successful business man functioning quite well......that's the short version of a long story.
Be smart. Majority do fine but you never know.

Beer is very tasty and there are lots of different flavors to choose from. The problem is, most people who drink it the first time drink the cheap stuff.

A lot of people advise drinking sweet stuff the first time. I think it depends on what you like. Don't try to drink too much the first time you do it. Take your time. Try to enjoy the flavor rather than the feelings that come from alcohol.

And really, if you don't like it, don't feel like you have to keep drinking.

A simple screwdriver tastes best to me, essentially just vodka and orange juice, althought there are slightly more complicated recipes. You have to like orange juice, though.

Just have a domestic beer. I like Canadian beer.

Yes beer is bitter, and unique, and that is why it is sooooo good. If you are a guy, you will like beer.

Expect bitter. It isn't pop. I can't drink pop anymore.

I even like a beer with dinner

As far as beers: drink 'diet' beers: Coors Light, Bud Light.

Mixed drinks: half a shot of vodka w OJ and ICE !!!

EAT !!!! ~ While drinking !!!!!!!!!!

Don't say anything stupid. (Just kidding)

Have fun !!!

DO NOT DRINK TOO MUCH OF ANY ONE THING!

When you're head starts buzzing, it's too late, you drank too much for the first time. I'd suggest you have two glasses of whatever you choose and then stop.

It depends on what you are eating. Beer is fantastic with stuff like pizza, wings, burgers. I can't have these things without beer now. It just makes me sad. Basically you have your Lagers(the light beer you have probably smelled at sporting evnets) Pilsners(a slightly fruity drink usually consumed in summer) Bock(a heavier brew more nutty), Stouts and porters(very, very thick beer usually like an oatmeal or coffee taste)

vodka and OJ is a good choice(called a screwdriver). It's pretty basic. It tastes like orange juice and it won't raise any eyebrows. One of my first times I ordered a "white russian" because thats what the dude drinks all day in the movie "The big lebowski". Later I got super embarassed because apparantly nobody ever drinks white russians and I now understand why I had to repeat myself 3 times to the bartender.

Also try a rum and coke. That just tasts like coke. "Malibu and Coke" tastes like coconut coke.

If you are more adventerous try a whiskey and coke. That's my go to drink. If you ask for a liquor mixed with soda or juice, be ready for the bartender to ask you which brand(they should). "Captian MOrgan" is the most common rum used, "malibu" is the coconut rum. A go-to with whiskey is usually "jack" or "evan williams" or "jameson".
Most liquors are equal in alchohol by volume. A drink with whiskey is no stronger than a drink with vodka unless the proof is really really high and you would have to specifically ask for high proof(most people never do)

Try a light beer and see if you like the taste. Then try a hard cider. Very popular these days and great tasting versions out there.

That's a good start... OR

Try a mixed drink. High quality vodka and orange juice in the morning, or a spicy Bloody Mary if you like tomato juice.

Last option try a quality scotch and water. Johnny Walker Black or better. SIP IT. Should last you 20 to 30 minutes. Try it with ice after the first drink to see what you like best. Room temperature or cold.

If you have no more than two drinks of any type you will be fine. DON"T mix beer or cider with other drinks, and don't mix clear liquor with colored liquor. For example don't try a vodka and then switch to a scotch or rum.

Good look.

Depends on how much of a sally you are about your drink..

Light choices
-Beer: Try angry orchard (green apple taste)

-Wine: Roscato (this is literally fermented grape juice. very sweet with no dryness)

-Liqour: This one is hard..start easy on the amount of alcohol.. a little is a lot!
- 1 part vodka with 2 parts organe juice and 1 part cranberry
- Captain morgan Private stock with coke
- Apple crown shots!
