Just read a post on social media....everyone wishing this person a happy birthday. Then someone gushes on about him and ends with 'you are such a perfect example of living the true gospel of Christ' to paraphrase it. Can Mormons not even wish each other a happy birthday without bearing testimony or connecting it to church in some way?!? I wish I could view that through the eyes of a nevermo, because as an exmo I just want to gag.

I would only see that in maybe one or two of the most hyper-Christian colleagues in my network -- the kind that you can never socialize with because all they know how to talk about is Jesus and church. Most Christians of my acquaintance would find that over the top.

I think messages like that are meant to glorify whoever writes them.

"I'm so special because I can infuse God into everything, including a simple birthday greeting."

This is what I was thinking too. The person who said it is the guy's sister-in-law who has had a tough time being married to a nevermo. I think she thought she could convert him along the way. I think she's a bit jealous that her baby sister is married to this guy who is a 'perfect example of blah blah'. But this lady has been married to her nevermo for around 25 years, so she has really 'endured'.

You said, in part:

"I wish I could view that through the eyes of a nevermo, because as an exmo I just want to gag."

In the eyes of this nevermo, it makes me want to gag. I also agree with what Cheryl said :)

"...perfect example of living the true gospel of Christ.." are the exact words that were used on a facebook post of my niece that just got married in the temple this last weekend.

I guess I'm not a perfect example as I was allowed to attend the wedding....
