I'm trying to figure out if there are any benefits to registering here, but can't find anything.

Per Susan's instructions regarding this topic, I have used this same screen name for all my posts.

For one thing, it gives you the ability to edit your posts if you find you've made a mistake, or think of something to add.

Also, I've never posted without logging in first, so if someone ever tried to post in my name, without being logged in, people could know that it wasn't actually me.

Sometimes trolls have pulled that sort of stunt.

But you don't have to register, if you don't want to. It's up to you.

I have wanted to edit before and wondered why I couldn't.

Thanks!

You can edit your posts.
You can follow threads.
You can change the "view" you see.
And my #1 favorite - the REPORT button!

Thanks, Susan.

Is there a place I should have been able to find all of this? (My wife would say "Did you look behind the milk?")

I did try to find the answer first. ;-)

I will try to remember to do that around here someplace.

And it sounds like you are a husband like mine. LOL, it is one of my pet peeves. DUDE! Wives do not have a map of the fridge!

You can edit your posts.

No one can steal your name.

That's a good point.

Happened to me several times before I registered. Someone claimed to be me when I was out of town. They wrote mean hateful things and blamed them on me.

What finally motivated me to register is that another board member started to use a very similar name. But once I registered, I wondered what took me so long. If you post here regularly, I would recommend registering. It makes your experience on the board so much nicer.

You can edit and report abuse if you are registered

You can go back and edit your posts if you register and log in.

You can configure how the threads are displayed.

You do not have to enter the your name and the letters with every post.

Those are some that I know about.

I don't understand this particular benefit. What does that mean and how do I do the configuration?

1. Tons of leftover jello after each meeting.
2. Nifty "REVOKED" sticker to put on your temple recommend.
3. 12 new handshakes taught by Susan's stuffed animal friends.
4. Automatically entered into the Publisher's Clearing House drawing.

You had me at "leftover jello."

I had a particularly bad spelling/editing day. Basically, I registered to avoid future embarrassment.

A nice bonus I didn't realize I would get: I don't have to type those annoying spam prevention codes anymore. I just hit reply and start typing.

In fact, I don't even have to log in every day. RFM remembers me, unless my husband has been posting under his user name.

Signed my name to a post reporting Jay Leno had dropped dead of a heart attack.

It got pulled fairly quickly, but there were other episodes that were worse. This was back when one could still post unregistered with the same handle;

Okay, most of you don't enjoy needling and gobsmacking trolls the way I do, but honest, it's a wonderful catharsis for relieving road rage.
