This is only from my area. But come on totally ridiculous:

Last XXX we sent you a request for apartment furniture needs and the response was wonderful. We were able to fill all of our needs at that time through generous donations of your stake members. We are so grateful for the response and great support of the members.

We have additional missionaries arriving in XXX, plus we furnished an apartment for temporary missionaries. As a result we once again have several needs for our missionary apartments.

We would be very grateful if you would pass on the following mission needs to your wards.

Any people with items to donate can contact Elder XXX, Mission Housing Coordinator, at XXX

Thanks for your consideration in this.

Warm Regards,

President XXX

Need something? Just ask for it and some foolish people will comply. I haven't been able to get away with that since I was three years old.

This is silly. Elders don't need all that stuff. 1 in 100 couldn't operate a rice cooker at gunpoint.
They need a bed, a chair and a bathroom.
What kind of wimps are they sending out these days?

HA! I was thinking the exact same thing - even *I* couldn't operate a rice cooker at gunpoint!

(I was thinking at first that maybe this was some kind of 'Ewtaw' thing. Y'know, mom's can only feed all those little mouths with cheap rice . . . so the kids learn how to use the rice cooker at a young age, so they can cook dinner on nights their parents go to the temple).

You know. Something like that. So, as a result, all Utah mormon males are fully prepared to use a rice cooker when they enter the mission field.

Dunno. Don't understand Utah culture and I never will.

Teenagers, however, I understand. And I fully agree with hotwaterblue -- those boys are never even gonna plug in the appliance, much less hit the 'on' button!

;o)

I would hate for you to be killed for not knowing how to use a rice cooker, so just in case here is what you do . . .

Put water and rice in the cooker, and press cook.

Wait til it tells you it's done.

Then eat the rice.

;-P

I love a good pile of properly cooked rice. 19 year old men don't know good rice from oatmeal. I'm a reasonably good cook and was well known in the mission field for my culinary expertise. I roasted turkeys and cooked thanksgiving dinner for a handful of these slopes and droolers parents had the audacity to send overseas.

This is just ridiculous. The church can spend money on a mall but can't supply missionaries with basic necessities, like a bed. And the missionaries are PAYING for this experience.

Fleecing the flock has been perfected to a fine art by the Mormon cult.

There is just no end to what they think they need.

Whatever happened to Deseret Industries? Can't they requisition it from there?

Isn't this what the 10% Tithing, Missionary Fund donations, AND the missionary's own payments to his mission for????!!!!

Wow - mishies must be fat these days. When I was at university in England co-students usually *shared* beds half the size of a twin (helpfully installed by the university to prevent exactly that kind of thing). I guess needs must eh?

I love my Hitachi rice cooker. It cooks any kind of rice perfectly every time.

It also works great for cooking/steaming tamales. Homemade or purchased.

It was gIven to me as a xmas present & I thought I would never use it but I use it several times a week.

I was thinking of defending my rice cooker also. LOL! I have a Zojirushi. My daughter-in-law is from Thailand and she turned me onto Jasmine rice and rice cookers. I think the poor missionaries need more meat than rice.

That makes me furious. I thought missionaries had to save up for $400 every month that they are on their missions.

That's disgusting.
