waiting for wife and children.

I am a stranger in a new ward.

A gentleman sits down next to me appearing to be sad about something. In his 50s. We ignored each other.

He was approached by an older woman and she asked why no one had seen the man's daughter at church in a while.

He said something like....

She has been having an awful time with all this "stuff".

Her response - yes..it's going around. I am so sorry.

At first I thought that everyone was sick but as they continued to talk about placing her name on the prayer roll at the temple I realized that they were talking about the essays.

The father was almost in tears as he talked about how much they have been praying for her to feel the spirit again.

It is strange to read about the essays on this board and other places online and then to hear the effect they are having on actual mormon human types in the real world.

That's awesome. Hopefully it's more.contagious than the flu.

Thanks for sharing.

Since I don't go to church anymore I have no idea how much members are actually being exposed to the essays. I figured they were all just burying their heads in the sand. Glad to know some are being exposed.

They're having such a hard time with polygamy, racism etc because their conscience and common sense tells them it's unjust.

Many Mormons are good people.

Not because of their Mormonism.
Not because doing what Mormonism tells them makes them good.

I hope they will come to know this deep down, sometimes even former Mormons struggle with this concept. Leaving Mormonism does not make you a bad person, you are not choosing to be a bad person by choosing not to believe Mormonism any longer.

The struggle is a sign that there are conflicts that need to be sorted through.

Be confident in this statement. Being a Mormon does not make you a good person.

Thanks for this post, anon. That sure is a far cry from the noisy foyer bravado I heard in the sixties and seventies.

It's not all that strange for people to be gossiping about each other in the foyer.
