I'm willing to spend up to $25 for a bottle. What wine would go great with Thanksgiving dinner? We will be having turkey and the usuals.

I think a sweeter wine, like a Moscato, goes well with turkey.

A nice Chardonnay would be a good choice. Another can't go wrong choice, if you like something sweet, would be an Asti Spumante. Or you might choose a Rose. Some people like White Zinfandel, but I'm not a fan.

Gewurztraminer, a German white varietal, is best for sipping while eating turkey. The combination of taste and aroma is sweeter than razzleberry pudding.

That's the one I always go with. The majority of people in my family like it with Turkey. I bought a bottle at Costco yesterday. I'm not sure if it's good wine or not, but the bottle is gorgeous. It's huge and made out of bright blue glass with a German label on it.

I also buy red wine, vodka (and mixers), a bottle of Bailey's is a must have. Baileys is great over ice after dinner, or in your coffee.

Yes, madalice. If and when I resume drinking adult beverages* I'll have an Irish Coffee with Bailey's. Yum.

*The one Rush Limbaugh meme that I like. Adult beverages.

I have never known another person who likes Gewurztraminer, I also think Sauvignon Blanc goes great with fish and poultry.

Avoid red wines unless you have a very hearty gravy and use a lot of it. A "late harvest" riesling is also a good bet, a little sweeter and wont dry your mouth, important consideration when eating turkey!

Unoaked chardonnay is better with a rich dinner than the oaky buttery chardonnay

Pinot Noir for a red that won't overwhelm

White Zinfandel for those who like it sweeter.

White wine spritzer is nice too.

I agree with your choices, but get out voted. I suppose I could buy a bottle that's just for me. I suppose I could drink the entire thing by myself without too much trouble.

I'm a longtime Chardonnay fan for pairing with poultry, but lately I've gotten into Sauvignon Blanc - especially the riper grapes/peachier taste of some California vineyards.

Or...how about a cranberry-orange martini?

And it is never to early for egg nog.

However, I usually go for champagne or sparkling wine with a splash of chambord. It is a very pretty drink...the color of cranberries.

Chardonnay is a safe choice and Kendall-Jackson is a reliable quality producer. There are many other good chardonnays, of course.

For you beer folks. A good Irish red ale, simple sweet, yet not over powering and refreshing. If it is a smoked bird go with a Scottish ale, the smoked peat malt blendo well with hickory smoked meats. For pie, a good triple Belgian.

They still make that swill? I haven't had that since 1970 something. If I remember right, it made me vomit. A lot.

I was fourteen, and we lived in the desperate little town of my birth--La Grande, Oregon. My father had moved all eight of us into a one bedroom one bath house he got cheap two miles out of town. He made the garage into two tiny bedrooms and shoved us all into a modular shell the size of a small double wide.

All our neighbors were mouth breathers and failed small farmers, so I walked to town to visit with my rich middle class friend. His dad was a truck driver, and his mom was a dispatcher. They were swimming in wealth. They had just two sons, each with his own bedroom. Their refrigerator had a lot of food in it with cokes that you could just go ahead and drink. In the door of the fridge was a bottle of Boone's Farm Strawberry Hill. They were wealthier than I had even suspected.

"Don't drink too much of that wine," my friend told me, "I usually just have one glass." He usually just has one glass! I started giggling involuntarily, because the Coca Cola alone was astonishing and shiny enough to bring me near to tears. I sipped a small glass of wine and sat on the couch in front of a color TV with cable, a very rare luxury back then. Cable brought extra channels to the isolated mountain town.

But Japanese Wagyu (Kobe Beef) have beer and sake.

More serious answer: "...with some fava beans and a nice chianti."
