Did anyone get ex'd for having homosexual feelings or thoughts but not acting on them? I was thinking I have heard this before.

I know that in the mid 80s you couldn't admit to being gay at all, whether you had physical relationships or not.

My ex "repented" to the bishop in 1983. They didn't ex him (he didn't just admit to being gay--he had been very active). The bishop told him at that time they weren't ex'ing gays because very few every came back once ex'd.

BUT the bishop also told me at that time, HE HAD TO CHANGE--he couldn't even claim to have gay feelings any longer, or he was damned. Plain and simple.

He told me that not even "1 in 10" make it.

They really reeled me in--my ex was going to h*ll unless I saved him.

Since LDS Inc. is the master of the universe, it can cure your homosexuality with electricity.

If any of you have seen the site about "Why Won't God Heal Amputees" which talks about the power of prayer (or rather, lack thereof), I see implications that go along with the line of what Rubicon is saying.

With all the priesthood miracles of bringing people back to life, curing them of cancer, restoring their sight and all the rest, you'd think they'd be able to offer a "cure" to homosexuality to those LDS members desiring such a "cure" (I hate the word "cure" in this context but that's the LDS mindset-- not mine). But no...let's do shock treatment instead. Let's show pornography to people with electrodes attached to their genitalia.

Talk about crimes against humanity. I'd expect such crimes from the sadistic Nazi prison camp doctors. Shows BYU and the LDS church in general in its truest light.

I didn't get the Big X when I confessed to being gay in 1984. I did go to see someone from LDS Social Services. I had been involved with someone physically but certainly not promiscuous.

Maybe it depended on the Bishop. Although they may have been misguided, I think the concern the Church showed was genuine and the matter was handled with strict confidence.

I don't think Mormons had thought enough about it to deside there was a difference between orientation and action. It was just assumed that gays were effeminate men who would hump like bunnies.

Late '70's and early '80's, Hinckley had not yet said that marriage was not a cure.

I went to LDS Social Services in '79, '80, & '81, and their program of fasting, early rising, scripture reading and counseling sessions were not only to keep you free from same sex sex but get you ready to marry a woman. I kept having sex with guys and was just tired and hungry.

Through 2 church courts I was told I was not gay because I was not effeminate nor did I wear jewelry. Serious, one stake High Counselor commented that I wasn't gay because the last gay guy they had a court for had worn a lot of jewelry. This was in a student stake at the UofU.

On my own, I went to see Dr. Card in about '83 and he was still electric shock aversion therapy. I've posted about that several times before.

It was more into the '90's that I started to hear that it was OK to be gay as long as you were celebate.

As best I remember they only thing from the church in that period was Kimball's Miracle of Forgiveness, Packer's "To The One" speach at BYU, Parker's for the Strenght of Youth, and Kimball's statement about "bloody knucles."

I told my Stake President that I was a lesbian in a man's body. Nothing happened.

Just sayin'...
