I'm actually starting to like old Joe a bit. He didn't even try that hard to pretend it wasn't all about sex, and hiding it from Emma. Here's a letter he wrote to Sarah Ann Whitney. Another one of his "wives"

On August 18th, several weeks after the marriage, Joseph Smith wrote a letter to his new bride and her parents. He was hiding from the law at a home on the outskirts of Nauvoo: “...my feelings are so strong for you since what has passed lately between us...it seems, as if I could not live long in this way; and if you would come and see me...it would afford me great relief...I know it is the will of God that you should comfort me now in this time of affliction...the only thing to be careful of; is to find out when Emma comes then you cannot be safe, but when she is not here, there is the most perfect safty...burn this letter as soon as you read it; keep all locked up in your breasts...You will pardon me for my earnestness on this subject when you consider how lonesome I must be...I think emma wont come tonight if she dont, dont fail to come tonight...”

What's the source for this quote? Did she not burn up the letter as he instructed?

I guess not:

SOURCE: Joseph Smith, Jr., to Newel K. Whitney, Elizabeth Ann Whitney, etc., 18 August 1842, George Albert Smith Family Papers, Special Collections, Marriott Library, University of Utah, Salt Lake City. The text and the signature of this document are in the handwriting of Joseph Smith, Jr. This document has been reproduced in Dean C. Jessee's masterful The Personal Writings of Joseph Smith (Salt Lake City, Utah: Deseret Book Co., 1984), pp. 539-40. See also In Sacred Lonliness, page 349-350

Apologists try to dismiss this letter because it was addressed to her parents and was inviting all three of them to come visit. It is amazing to me how creative they can be when it comes to inventing/augmenting evidence, whereas obvious explanations escape them in situations like this one. Let me try...

Her parents willingly gave their daughter to Joseph Smith, likely in exchange for eternal salvation, etc. She was only 17, so it would be very strange to have her traveling unaccompanied. Once they arrived at the house, the parents could enjoy some time with the prophet, before leaving Sarah Ann Whitney to spend the night with her husband, and then return again in the morning to escort her home. It is NOT rocket science.

Where was Emma during this time? Were they having differences and she was staying at her mothers? So this is basically a 19th century booty call?

Definitely a booty call. He was hiding in a house from the law and Emma couldn't come every night. Joe took advantage of the nights she couldn't. He definitely came every night.

After Joseph and Emma moved from New York to Ohio in 1831, Emma never saw her parents again.

she didn't burn it and was not struck down by a sword? Brave lady. Most women asked "how high?" when JS told them to jump. It is seriously pathetic.

There is an old country song about this called "Slipping Around" GAG and GAG and GAG, then VOMIT

"Where was Emma during this time?" - I SO HOPE SHE WAS OUT WITH HER BOYFRIEND GETTING SCREWED RIGHT.
