The Home page of LDS org has a friendly reminder to any questioning Joseph Smith's character. Neil Anderson, in his condescending, screw you manner, reminds the "faithful" that whatever questions you may have are your fault-not the church's or certainly not Joseph's.

"We are especially saddened when someone who once revered Joseph retreats from his or her conviction and then maligns the Prophet.10

“Studying the Church … through the eyes of its defectors,” Elder Neal A. Maxwell once said, is “like interviewing Judas to understand Jesus. Defectors always tell us more about themselves than about that from which they have departed.”11

I hate it when a bad artist tries to paint a picture. It just doesn't come out right. And it's never accurate or true to life.

"Livin' after midnight..."

(by the by, the Mormon church would not exist without defectors)

Ah, but Judas did what was necessary in order to bring about Jesus's atoning sacrifice. He wasn't a traitor, he did what none of the other disciples had the guts to do. He did the necessary dirty work.

It's the same with Lucifer. If we must know evil in order to understand and appreciate good, then he's just doing his job -- the one he was created to do.

Yeah, that must be maddening. Poor little "we" being all saddened to discover a small hole in the coin purse.

Cheer up "we" ones! There are many mormon church spinoffs that could no longer follow Joseph, or modernday leaders, but still think the Book of Mormon is true.

Will he remind faithful members of these words, and then claim a few local members took things a little too far?

Heber C Kimball Journal of Discourses, vol.6, pp.125-126

Judas lost that saving principle, and they took him and killed him. It is said in the Bible that his bowels gushed out; but they actually kicked him until his bowels came out.... Judas was like salt that had lost its saving principles—good for nothing but to be cast out and trodden under foot of men.... It is so with you, ye Elders of Israel, when you forfeit your covenants.... I know the day is right at hand when men will forfeit their Priesthood and turn against us and against the covenants they have made, and they will be destroyed as Judas was

His mother is like Judas.
