Rathbun was second to the top Scientology before he escaped. His wife (never a Scientologist) has a law suit pending against the group for harassment. IMO, this was an attempt to provoke Rathbun into taking a swing so that they could have him arrested for assault and discredit him before the court or pressure his wife into dropping it.

the mormon church would never stoop so low....in public. instead, they get their revenge via rumors started in leadership meetings. they encourage spouses to divorce apostates. they make demands on time that pull families apart.

Not as bad/profanity laden as I expected, but definitely in- your-face and embarrassing.
As an aside: Why are their DV cameras so big? It belies the fact that they might just have happened to run into him, just happening to catch him on an iPhone or other phone camera. Now it's clear they went prepared for the confrontation & this was no chance meeting.

Agreed and it's the preparation that scares me - know his routine, meet him, have a script. To say nothing of processing this as being a good idea in the first place!

They definitely had a strange lingo of insulting that I didn't really get. My future girlfriend kept insisting "you are nothing" like that was the worst thing you can say to a scientologist
It's probably "com cycles" (it's what they call the first steps of entrapment in Scientology, if I remember correctly).
But I have to admit that "cum suckles" is much more fun.
