In my case, my gal never wanted me to go on a mission in the first place.
After walking out of the MTC we continued to communicate and have a long distance relationship. She ended up getting involved with the "wrong crowd" (smoked, drank, drugs, sex, etc.) and that turned me off. Eventually we settled on others and our relationship ended. She got pregnant and married the guy. I married someone else. We were both in horrible marriages.
Twelve years later we contacted each other again. For six years we did the "Same Time Next Year" thing. But again, distance and life got in the way, so we ended it for good. That was sixteen years ago and there has been no contact. There will always be a special place in our hearts for each other.
this highlights the way the Corp intimidates ppl, especially about their sexuality; None of their Business.
If they wanted to maintain confidentiality <instead of gossip/broadcast>, counsel people about reality & real consequences about decisions <instead of guilt/shame>, that could be different.
but as we know, that's not the path they've chosen.
