Not long ago I was being issued challenges by mostly TBM family members and friends to dump a bucket of ice water on my head. They were caught up in a frenzy of family and friends doing something stupid because everyone else was pressuring them to do it. Also they were trying to outdo each other on who could be more stupid.

Not that I'm against donating money to a cause but frankly I passed on this one.

It all reminded me of why people attend the LDS church. Because they are pressured into doing so and some try to outdo the others in the whole church fad. Most never step back and ask themselves why they are doing it. They do it because everyone in their family and peer group are doing it.

It's mass hysteria more than thinking things through.

The point was to raise money. Although I know some TBMs who did donate, I assume most just dumped ice water on their heads.

I know what you mean Rubicon. I had the same thought, that it's kind of a high pressure sales tactic - even though in the case of the ice buckets, it's a good cause.

I agree. I'm glad the fad is over with.

I agree. Patrick Stewart's Ice Bucket Challenge is the only one I liked. You can see it on youtube.

Funny. I was perusing rfm last night, came across your post, looked it up (loved it) and then went down that rabbit hole known as you tube and never came up.

I gave Mormonism the cold shower challenge.
