It seems that TSCC's official position on JS's first (purported) vision dates it to 1820, based, of course, on subsequent material sourced years and even decades later. Nevertheless the bicentennial of this (purported) event is coming up in six years.

My guess is that they would be in the early stages of planning a celebration of it. What can anti-mo's be doing to prepare for this PR onslaught? Should the exmormonfoundation, and others, start organizing effective, persuasive material debunking it? Setting up teaching symposia? Creating time charts? Preparing articles to submit to the secular media critiquing TSCC's claims?

It would be prudent, even now, to anticipate what TSCC might do to present the JS/vision history as authentic. Those of you who are strongly academic and involved in scholarly organizations, whether they are Mormon-specific or not, might start giving this some early thought.

there won't be celebrations....they don't know when, where or exactly what happened. They don't want to expose that.

However, these anniversaries are real and should be remembered:

World War One ended the dynastic order Europe and created in the modern era in which we now live. We are still dealing with the aftermath...

Martin Luther changed the world five hundred years ago. He changed the lives of more people than Joseph Smith did.

Mormonism was created with a single goal: to enrich its creators. Today it is a corporation operating as a religious front.

That's like celebrating the 500th anniversary of the founding of the Klingon empire. Fine and well, but kind of pointless.

As I understand this at this current time...The Klingon empire does not exist yet

The 200th anniversary will be in 2038. That was when JS concocted the story.

"En mil ochocientos viente, un joven llamado Jose Smith . . ."

Still have that stupid thing memorized. Little did I know then that it was a lie.

By the way, when contacts in Argentina answered the question as to who appeared to Smith, the typical answer was "Juan y Eva Peron."

If they don't celebrate it's a giveaway: Nothing happened in '20 and they know it. Ensign stated '20 was the "official" date.

We could sell commemorative hat & rock sets. Or spectacles. I would prefer the kind that are also a straw, preferably with the other end in a bottle of bubbly!
